With technologies that make space more affordable and accessible, we’re dedicated to creating a prosperous and secure space economy that will benefit all of humanity. Rapidly advancing toward the launch of the next generation of space transportation, the world’s first commercial spaceplane, Dream Chaser®, will perform cargo supply and return missions for NASA - delivering up to 12,000 pounds of cargo to the International Space Station (ISS) at a time. Sierra Space is also the developer of the Large Integrated Flexible Environment (LIFE™), a modular, three-story inflatable habitat that we are developing as we build the first commercial space station. The unique structure will provide opportunities for multiple businesses including manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, and other sectors, to optimize zero gravity benefits.

    This summer, Marcus DeLaTorre – Test Engineer II, conquered one of his goals and ascended Mt. Kilimanjaro, after his support of the Dream Chaser environmental test campaign. Proud to represent a team that’s reaching new heights, both Earth and beyond, Marcus held the Sierra Space flag high at the summit to celebrate the achievement. “Climbing to the Roof of Africa was an amazing challenge & celebration to cap off the ATF campaign before heading into final testing at KSC. I want to also thank the local Tanzanian guides at XPATS International Team for supporting my ascent.” – Marcus DeLaTorre.

    Our team is developing an innovative Catalytic Oxidizer (CatOx) to process volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and other gaseous byproducts to maintain a safe and sterile environment in space habitats. Our CatOx technology is incorporated onboard the Trash Compaction & Processing System (TCPS), as a source contaminant control system. This system manages waste during extended space missions, such as those beyond low-Earth Orbit (LEO). The TCPS technology compacts astronaut trash into solid tiles that are easy to store, safe to handle, and capable of providing additional radiation protection. This technology is particularly promising for space missions due to the lower energy consumption and ability to handle low reactant concentrations without requiring high operational temperatures.     Last month, we announced the second successful Ultimate Burst Pressure test for our LIFE 285 module. The objective of this test was to exceed the NASA 4x Safety Factor of 60.8 psi with a consistent result to our first test of 77 psi. This second test delivered similar results – within five percent of the pressure loading of the first test – with this one reaching 74 psi, exceeding NASA’s 4x safety factor by 22 percent.     In preparation for ongoing Advanced Plant Habitat (APH) studies, our APH Facility Support team is sending essential parts to the International Space Station on today’s commercial resupply mission that launched from SLC-40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.
