Since 2000, Snohomish County has been honoring farms throughout the county that have remained in continuous production under the same family ownership for 100 years or more. This year, the Stecher Family was awarded the Centennial Family Farm award. The Stecher Family has been farming on this land for 135 years, with the first generation purchasing the land in 1889, the same year Washington became a state. Tim Stecher and his wife Cheri, retired schoolteachers, are the fourth generation of Stechers to farm their 40 acres of land off Lowell-Larimer Road in Snohomish. For generations, his family has grown vegetables, raised dairy cows and beef cattle, and made hay. There are currently three generations living on the farm.

In honor of National Dog Day, we would like to introduce some of the hardest-working dogs. K-9 Doc, K-9 Knox, K-9 Dico, and K-9 Greg work tirelessly to ensure the safety of Snohomish County residents and their fellow officers. K-9 Doc started working alongside Deputy Holmes in 2021, specializing in tracking, evidence location, and criminal apprehension. On his breaks, Doc enjoys playing with his tug toy and snacking on peanut butter dog cookies. Outside of work, Doc enjoys swimming and going on walks. K-9 Knox started his career with Snohomish County Sheriff's Office in 2021, focusing on criminal apprehension. Knox loves snaking on chicken and hanging out with his best friend, Sgt. Ryan Boyer. Knox enjoys chewing on his Kong and teasing his two donkey friends when off the clock! K-9 Dico immigrated from the Netherlands and started his career with the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office in 2020. He primarily focuses on tracking and criminal apprehension. Dico enjoys spending quality time with his best friend, Deputy Byrd. Dico enjoys hot laps in the yard during his off time and receives hard-earned belly rubs. K-9 Greg joined the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office in 2022 and works alongside his best friend, Deputy Wallin, focusing on tracking, evidence location, and criminal apprehension. Greg enjoys Chick-fil-A fries and playing with his roped Kong. When Greg is off the clock, he enjoys spending time at home with his bunny siblings. #NationalDogDay #SnohomishCounty #SnohomishCountySheriffs #K9 #Kong #workingdogs

The Evergreen State Fair is back this year with new and returning food and commercial vendors, carnival rides, animal barns, displays and exhibits, entertainment, beer gardens, and more. This year's Evergreen State Fair theme is a nod to all things summer. "Bright Lights, Summer Nights" embodies everything that makes summer one of the best times of the year. From the anticipation of the rising lights above a concert stage to a stroll with friends down the vibrantly lit midway to catching the sunset or fireworks show from the top of the Ferris wheel with someone special, these moments are magical. The fair runs from August 22, 2024, through September 2, 2024. To learn more about the fair and to buy your tickets today, visit: https://lnkd.in/gCu__EnM

August’s volunteer spotlight is Ryan M. He is a dedicated father, student, and CASA. Ryan learned about CASA while completing his associate degree. With an interest in social services, Ryan interviewed someone from DCYF for one of his classes. At the end of the call, the DCYF worker suggested volunteering with CASA to learn more about the child welfare system. Knowing CASA was the right fit, Ryan went through pre-service training and was appointed to his first case. As a CASA, Ryan is motivated by the opportunity to profoundly impact a child’s life. In his free time, Ryan loves being outside, and spending time with his family. Ryan’s program coordinator says that Ryan is very dedicated to working his case as well as growing his skills as a CASA. Ryan is conscientious, thoughtful, and open to coaching. Most recently, a party on his case thanked him for being such a positive and stable support in the child’s life. Thank you, Ryan, for your commitment to advocating for children in need! #VolunteerSpotlight #VolunteerAppreciation #ChildAdvocate #SnohomishCASA #SnohomishCounty #CASA
