Eastern Mountain Sports has its new lifeline. The U.K.’s leading outdoor apparel and equipment retailer Mountain Warehouse has finalized a deal to acquire certain key assets of bankrupt Eastern Mountain Sports (EMS) for $10 million. The agreement will keep all seven profitable stores open, the website in operation and secure the jobs of more than 100 of EMS’ staff employed.

Target wants consumers to feel like they’re part of the company’s inner circle. The superstore chain announced during its Q2 2024 earnings call last week that it will open its 11th sortation center in the United States. Its existing sortation facilities pepper states like Colorado, Florida Georgia, Illinois, Pennsylvania and Texas, according to the company. Michael Fiddelke, chief operating officer and chief financial officer of the company, said doing so will increase the company’s capabilities.

Cotton Made in Africa (CmiA)’s partners made significant strides last year, Aid by Trade Foundation (AbTF), the nonprofit organization responsible for the standard, revealed in a recently released report. Aggregated verification results from 2023 found that the largest program for sustainable cotton from Africa’s verified partners achieved “good” to “very good” ratings across its four sustainability pillars. Prosperity performed preeminently, followed by people, management and planet.

At a time when “carbon tunnel vision” is blinding the industry from making meaningful change, Woolmark is looking beyond net-zero to nature-positive with a new scheme. Woolmark+ is a roadmap to drive the wool industry toward what the marketing arm of Australian Wool Innovation (AWI) calls nature positivity—something Woolmark has invested $34 million AUD (about $23 million) into over the past two years.

RIVET, the global media authority serving the international denim industry, released the Fall 2024 issue on Tuesday. Fall is always a busy and transformative time for the denim industry, from New York Fashion Week kicking off a month-long stretch of runway shows to mills and fabric producers convening at Kingpins Amsterdam to discuss their next collections. Rivet will be at both with the fall issue distributed across NYC fashion events in September and the preeminent denim event in October.

With over 40 years of manufacturing expertise under its belt, Hansae Fashion Worldwide is taking its business to the next level with its latest acquisition. In August, the Seoul-based global garment producer announced its purchase of U.S. textile manufacturer Texollini. Through this acquisition, Hansae, which exports 300 million articles of clothing annually from 12 corporations across six countries, hopes to strengthen its position in the global fashion industry. This follows other Hansae investments in the Western Hemisphere aimed at bolstering its quick-turn and vertical capacities.

Resale could be our savior—at least that’s what the numbers and the microtrends suggest. It’s an easy loophole for consumers hashtagging underconsumption-core and, if brands are smart about it, a second, or even third, chance at offloading their inventory.

H&M is channeling the power of pop culture for its latest collection. On Thursday, the Swedish fast-fashion retailer announced its A/W 2024 campaign starring an array of musicians, models and cultural icons, including 32-year-old British avant-pop and electronic superstar Charli XCX. Accompanying the “Guess” singer in the campaign are Arca, Lila Moss, Ajus Samuel, Loli Bahia, Wali Deutsch, Okay Kaya, Bibi Breslin, Alewya, Sage Elsesser, Sega Bodega and Lux Gillespi.

UPS hasn’t had the easiest go in the past two years amid weak demand for freight and falling volumes, but the Atlanta-based parcel delivery giant’s brand is still the most valuable in all of logistics, one brand valuation consultancy says.
