ISC is an international, non-profit organization that works to support communities by creating, implementing, and scaling equitable climate change solutions for communities at the frontline of the global climate crisis. Our unique, bottom-up approach ensures solutions emerge from within communities, rather than being imposed from the outside. By sharing international best practices and experiences, providing technical expertise and training, and building the capacity of local organizations, we support innovative solutions and sustainable change. We address the root causes of climate change impacts by building community knowledge and skills, strengthening governance, and diversifying the field of sustainability professionals. Our approach incorporates capacity building, technical assistance delivery, knowledge products, climate change action planning, and peer learning.

You may be aware of the devastating effects of #climatechange on public health, but researchers at Duke University are examining the intersection of climate change, radon exposure, and lung cancer. Radon is a dangerous gas found in rocks and soil and released during extreme temperature and precipitation—conditions which are more frequently present from climate disasters like extreme heat and storms. Sadly, radon is the leading cause of lung cancer in non-smokers in the United States. Read more at https://bit.ly/3XtPy7X #radon #lungcancer #extremeheat #health

Sobering #climatechange news: A report by the Journal of the American Medical Association found that heat-related fatalities have risen by 117% since 1999. Across the world, many communities are already experiencing the debilitating effects of climate change and extreme heat. Sadly, frontline communities have some of the least access to affordable air conditioning. That’s why ISC works with communities to become resilient to heat waves and other climate disasters. Today’s #Feelgoodfriday: for the first time, power generation from wind outstripped coal for two months in a row—March and April 2024. While wind generation commonly tops coal generation in April due to lowered energy demands and boosts from spring winds, this is a new record. It showcases the rapid growth of wind energy in the United States, with experts predicting wind energy will provide up to 35% of the energy supply by 2050. More people in India are worried about the effects of climate change on their country. Despite India’s relatively lower climate emissions per capita, the country faces many climate impacts such as extreme heat, sea level rise, and strong storms. Additionally, India faces a variety of barriers impacting their ability to become more resilient. Learn more at https://bit.ly/3AlqrLA #climatechange #climateresilience #climateimpact #India

Who is experiencing the effects of #climatechange in India? Most of the country, actually. When asked if they had personally experienced the effects of climate change, 78% of people agreed they had. Considering the extreme heat that India has faced in 2024, this is perhaps unsurprising. In May and June alone, temperatures rose to over 50 degrees Celsius (122 degree Fahrenheit), killing over 100 people and causing over 40,000 episodes of heat stroke. In comparison, less than half of Americans agreed with the same statement. That’s not to say that the US isn’t impacted by climate change, but some communities are disproportionately affected compared to others.
