Last week, the Jurisdictional REDD+ Technical Assistance Partnership (JTAP) led the first south-to-south exchange of experiences between Ecuador and Costa Rica. The event brought together government delegates and Indigenous representatives from both countries to address the challenges and opportunities in implementing jurisdictional REDD+, biodiversity mechanisms, and the financial sustainability of conservation areas. EDF’s Senior Manager, IPLC & Conservation Partnerships, Forests, Santiago Garcia said: “The event highlighted that the involvement of Indigenous Peoples is a dynamic process that requires sufficient financial and technical resources. These resources enable governments to provide the appropriate conditions and cultural framework necessary to ensure the effective participation of Indigenous Peoples in REDD+ processes.” The two participating countries emphasized that while the integrity of carbon markets is of critical importance, it is equally essential that the procedures for generating carbon credits be efficient and effective. This includes simplifying the complexity of these processes to achieve full and efficient implementation of jurisdictional REDD+.

As record heatwaves and rising sea levels threaten coastal communities worldwide, the need for bold ocean climate action has never been clearer. EDF was honored to participate in the G20 Ocean Dialogue hosted by Ocean Conservancy. Our Associate Vice President of Global Engagement & Partnerships, Juan Pablo Hoffmaister, joined Former US Secretary of State John Kerry and global leaders to explore how offshore renewables can drive transformative change in ocean climate action. Juan Pablo highlighted the critical role of innovative financial mechanisms to mobilize climate funding for renewable energy and coastal resilience. But it's not just about the money—it's about ensuring these resources reach and benefit those who need them most. From advancing sustainable offshore wind to ensuring local voices shape national climate goals, we advocate for a people-first approach that balances the needs of our planet with the well-being of those who live along our coasts. 🌍💙 Learn how this vision is becoming a reality in Long Beach, California, where frontline coastal communities are paving the way for a clean energy future: https://lnkd.in/eTHgibma #OceanClimateAction #G20 #CoastalResilience

“People need insurance. It’s essential for their recovery.” But when it costs $12,000 a year some people take their chances. And climate change is stacking the odds against them. As our Carolyn Kousky points out, it’s a gamble many can’t imagine losing until it’s too late. https://lnkd.in/g2VCAt7J

“New York City is at a crossroads; the decisions we make now will determine the city’s livability in a climate-changed world. The city faces growing climate threats that are exacerbating outdated infrastructure, and an affordable housing crisis that already affects about half of the city’s households,” writes Kate Boicourt, director of EDF's Climate Resilient Coasts & Watersheds program. Kate’s new op-ed in Crain's New York Business suggests ways New York City can progress its climate initiatives while addressing infrastructure and housing challenges. When we say we need a lot more transmission lines to connect and deliver clean power, we mean a LOT. The U.S. needs to build or upgrade around 75,000 miles of transmission lines to meet our climate goals – the equivalent of building *30 transmission lines connecting Los Angeles to New York City.* Finding faster ways to build transmission where it causes the least impact to communities and the environment – like using existing routes for highways and railroads – is going to be key.
