We're celebrating Aviation Day by taking a look back at the Inaugural Tennessee Drone Symposium! The Drone Symposium was a remarkable success with over 300 attendees and featured 29 speakers on the first day and 10 field demonstrations on the second day! Tennessee is working with government and industry leaders to bring and support drone technology innovation in the state. The TDOT Communications Leadership Team, consisting of Assistant Bureau Chief of Public Affairs/Communications Alex Denis and Communications Director Beth Emmons, had the opportunity to present to the American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE) Tennessee Valley group in Chattanooga. Their presentation, titled “Engineering the Perfect Communications Plan,” highlighted several key successes and strategies. They discussed their partnership with the Tennessee Titans and Nashville Sounds during Work Zone Awareness Week, which significantly broadened their audience reach. Their effective social media strategy during this campaign resulted in over a million impressions and thousands of engagements across various platforms. Additionally, they shared insights into their winter weather crisis communications plan. This plan garnered positive media coverage both statewide and nationally during January’s record-breaking storm. They emphasized how their communications campaigns are structured in phases similar to construction projects, and how each message is meticulously crafted for its intended audience and medium amplifying the good work being done at TDOT.
