In a presentation held this morning, the latest recipients of our Service Excellence Award were announced! 🏆 🌟 The clinical winner is Stephanie Wheeler, PT. Nominated by our ICU team, they shared that they had a patient who had become distraught during his hospital stay. As she got to know the patient during therapy, Stephanie learned that he was an avid video game player and arranged to have to a game system set up in his room. It made such a difference in his recovery! Thank you, Stephanie, for being a living example of the compassionate side of healthcare. 🌟 The non-clinical award this time was actually given to a group, because it was their efforts as a team that they are being recognized. We've shared with you previously our gratitude to our Information Services Department for the work that they did during the global IT outage back in July. Their commitment throughout that weekend allowed us to experience minimal disruptions so that we could continue to care for our patients. Again, we're grateful for not only the work you did during that time, but each and every day. Help us recognize outstanding Service Excellence by sharing your encounter with someone on our TMC team here: https://lnkd.in/eADGxHZN.

Last week, we welcomed representatives from nine area home health agencies to TMC to hear from Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. J. Tyler Newton, who serves as our Department Chief for Orthopedic Surgery and the Medical Director of our nationally recognized Total Joint Program. We acknowledge the important role that home health providers play in helping our patients recover appropriately at home after joint replacement surgery. Run, don't walk, to our main lobby today to support our TMC Volunteers! They're hosting a fundraiser until 3 pm where they are selling Nothing Bundt Cakes. And remember, by supporting the TMC Volunteers, you're helping them give to projects not only at our hospital, but throughout the communities that we serve! We think that's pretty sweet!

TexomaCare Vascular Surgeon Dr. Shonda Banegas joined our active medical staff one year ago, and her expertise has been life-changing for many patients in the Texoma region! After living with an aortic aneurysm for a decade, Kathy Seigler was referred to Dr. Banegas whose technique and skill are credited with providing her with not only effective treatment, but peace of mind. “Dr. Banegas wasted no time. On my first visit, she told me we were going to fix it,” Seigler says. “I was nervous about treatment, but I was also relieved at the thought of being able to go on walks with my granddaughter. I had spent so long constantly worrying it might rupture. I thought one day I might lift something too heavy, it would rupture and someone would find me dead.” Read more about Kathy's condition and the specialized stents used for her treatment here: https://lnkd.in/emsGbR33.

An extraordinary team with TMC Behavioral Health Center has been recognized with a Team Daisy Award! At an age where many teenagers are looking forward to celebrating this milestone, one of our patients was facing a mental health challenge that required her to be under the hospital's care on her 16th birthday. This could have been a lonely and disheartening experience, but our BHC staff made sure it was the surprise celebration that it should be! Here is what was shared with us in their nomination: "The team of Brian Walston, RN; Terrie Allen, RN; and Lorri McMillan, RN were committed to creating a memorable day was nothing short of remarkable. They started by gathering decorations, streamers, balloons, and birthday banners, transforming the hospital day room into a cheerful and vibrant party venue. The highlight of the celebration was a batch of beautifully decorated cupcakes, thoughtfully selected to ensure they catered to our patients’ dietary restrictions. As the day approached, the hospital staff, along with other patients who had been touched by this remarkable display of kindness, gathered in the day room, filling it with laughter, joy, and a sense of community. She was visibly moved by the gesture, her eyes sparkling with gratitude and surprise. The hospital staff's selfless actions not only made our patient’s day unforgettable but also uplifted the spirits of all the patients on the unit. They demonstrated that healing is not just about medicine; it's also about the empathy, love, and human connections that can make the road to recovery smoother and more meaningful." Join us in honoring this team, recognizing their exceptional commitment to patient care and their demonstration of the healing power of kindness!

PPE took on a whole new meaning when some of our nurse leaders donned "Pie Protective Equipment" earlier this week! 🥧 It was all in good fun that these leaders got pied in the face by members of our nursing staff who recently participated in an educational, unit based council event. Those who attended were entered into a raffle to pie their favorite nursing leader. And in case you're wondering why the pie in the face? It actually serves as a metaphor - "A splash of disruption, a challenge to the status quo, and an initiation into the club of change-makers." It certainly made for a fun and memorable event!
