❤️ HAPPY NATIONAL NONPROFIT DAY! ❤️ This is the day we recognize nonprofit organizations’ efforts to improve the communities they serve. Here is a brief history on The Progeria Research Foundation (PRF). 💙 The concept for PRF began in 1998 when Sam Berns, the son of two physicians, Drs. Leslie Gordon and Scott Berns, was diagnosed with Progeria. Faced with an absence of medical information, resources, and no centralized place for families to turn to for help, they created PRF along with their family, to find the cause, treatments and cure for #Progeria. 💙 Within four years of its founding, the PRF Genetics Consortium discovered the Progeria gene, a collaboration led by Dr. Francis Collins, former Director of the National Institute of Health & Social Sciences (NIH). Over the course of PRF’s 25-year history, this rare condition has gone from obscurity to 🌎 worldwide awareness.
