🤝 A new collaboration between Grist and Deep South Today is set to enhance climate and environment reporting. Tristan Baurick joins Verite News New Orleans as senior climate and environment reporter, becoming Grist's fifth local reporter. The partnership will also lead to a new reporting position that will work across Grist and Mississippi Today. Both Verite News and Mississippi Today are part of Deep South Today.

Winners in 18 of the 23 categories for the 2024 Online Journalism Awards (OJAs) have been announced, highlighting remarkable work from AJP-supported organizations. 🌎 The Marshall Project won in "Topical Reporting: Climate Change" for a story on California’s decision to place a prison on a dry lakebed despite significant climate risks. 📰 VTDigger placed in "Breaking News" for its extensive, on-the-ground coverage of historic flooding in Vermont. 📩 Spotlight PA won in "Excellence in Newsletters" for PA Local, a weekly newsletter that tells Pennsylvania’s stories “in a way that is people-focused, illuminating, and a respite in a punishing news cycle.” 🔍 Grist, in collaboration with the Data-Driven Reporting Project and Pulitzer Center, earned the University of Florida Award in Investigative Data Journalism for a series on the lasting impact of stolen wealth on public institutions, colonialism, higher education and climate change in the Western United States. Winners in the remaining categories will be announced at the 2024 Online News Association Conference (ONA24) on Sept. 20. AJP-supported outlets are finalists, including The Marshall Project for "General Excellence in Online Journalism" and THE CITY (newsroom) for "Excellence in AI Innovation."

Round of applause to THE CITY and Louisville Public Media for winning 2024 Edward R. Murrow Awards! 👏 These awards, presented by the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA), have recognized the best in broadcast and digital journalism for more than 50 years. THE CITY took home an award in the excellence in video category for revealing how two NYPD chiefs quickly intervened to release a retired officer arrested for allegedly menacing youths with a gun. Footage obtained through a public records request raised questions about the swift release. Louisville Public Media won in the news documentary category for "Dirty Business," a 1-hour audio piece about eastern Kentucky flood cleanup. See the full list of winners:
