A huge thank you to Jackie Kostek of CBS Chicago for highlighting our Summer Academy program at Northwestern University, where one of our remarkable Scholars, Gabriela Veliz, was spotlighted for her boundless enthusiasm for learning. Like many of our Scholars, her passion and drive earned her a place in our 6-Year Program. Today, Gabriela begins her journey as a first-year student at her dream school, Yale. Reflecting on how she prepared for this milestone, she shares: “Yale is definitely a very high academic level and I know I’ve been [performing] at a high academic level but anything that can help me bridge that gap between high school and college is super important and will make my time in the fall a lot easier.” Gabriela credits Thrive’s support and the belief our team has in her for helping her recognize her strengths and potential. As the first in her family to attend college in the U.S., let’s cheer on Gabriela and all our Scholars embarking on their college journeys this fall. We are thrilled to welcome Amanda Armour to our #LosAngeles Board of Directors. Amanda's educational background is a testament to her expertise. She holds a BS in Psychology and Biology, with concentrations in Neuroscience from Northwestern University, and a Public Health fellowship at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile in Santiago, Chile. Her academic journey continued with an MS in Social Psychology from Yale University, and she further honed her skills as a Distinguished Fellow in Political Psychology at Stanford University.   Amanda is the Founder and CEO of All Together Everyone (ATE). She was the Chief People Officer at Versus Systems. Her work includes creating and implementing operations, hiring, and organization efforts for the inaugural 2016 Cedar Sinai-Techstars partnership and resulting technology companies. She joined the Board of the Digital Diversity Network in 2019 and served on the Advisory Board of Aeras Fog, a drone technology company that began operations in 2020. Drew brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to educational equity, having led KIPP New Jersey through transformative growth and success. With his leadership, we're excited to build on our mission of empowering high-achieving, underrepresented students from under-resourced communities. Drew’s track record of managing large-scale educational initiatives makes him the perfect fit to guide us into our next chapter.
