For first-generation degree-aspiring students from low-income backgrounds who face systemic barriers, Bottom Line’s advisors are a relentless ally who partner with them to find the right college, persist to a degree, and successfully launch a career. As one of the first college support organizations to focus on college completion, Bottom Line now produces best-in-class college graduation rates that reduce the significant gap between first-generation students from low-income backgrounds and their wealthier peers. We operate regional programs in Massachusetts, New York City, and Chicago that collectively serve over 7,000 students.

Please welcome Emily Broughton to the Rotary Club of Dayton! Emily Broughton, is the founding Director of Development and External Relations at Bottom Line Ohio, a non-profit that helps local first-generation students from under-resourced backgrounds get into college, graduate, and go far in life. She is the mother of three girls and the current president of The Women's Board of Dayton Children's Hospital. She serves on the Culture Works Dayton board and has served on multiple area board and committees in the Greater Dayton region to support area non-profits.

From June 11 through June 13, Wellington Management hosted an inspiring group of undergraduate college students from Bottom Line, a grant recipient of the Wellington Foundation, for an immersive three-day #externship. This enriching externship offered attendees a behind-the-scenes look at the financial industry and an opportunity to explore various career paths within our company. It is one of the many initiatives that reflect our commitment to #education and community engagement. Bottom Line partners with degree-aspiring students of color from under-resourced communities to get into and through college and successfully launch a career. They are committed to building strong connections with their students, providing them with individual support, and ensuring they have the guidance they need to persist and earn a college degree. Since 1997, Bottom Line has addressed the low college graduation rates of first-generation students from low-income backgrounds. A heartfelt thank you to the Bottom Line organization for collaborating with us and to all the Wellington volunteers who made this event a success.

As we close out the fiscal year, I find myself reflecting on my own growth this past year. After 2.5 years at the firm, I continue to be incredibly proud of our work in DEI, navigating industry pivots, embracing uncertainty, and fostering a positive outlook for the future. This year, I’ve led and supported 5 conferences, traveled over 12,000 miles, and helped drive numerous new initiatives. The countless lives we’ve impacted make it all worthwhile. On a personal note, I launched a new business, 95BKLYN , which thrived in its first 6 months on the market. My brand participated in its first international summit and partnered with 5 nonprofit organizations to support education access and equity initiatives for underrepresented communities, moving beyond just fragrances. Academically, I completed my 4th semester as an Adjunct Professor, expanding both my course sections and teaching scope and added keynote speaker to my list of accomplishments! Additionally, as an Associate Board Member at Bottom Line I continue to uplift their mission of helping students get into college, graduate, and advance their careers, just as I did as an alum of their program. I also embarked on new ventures in real estate, adding Realtor to my background. It’s been a fulfilling year, and now it’s time to rest and reset. Here’s to new beginnings—and a new headshot to mark the occasion!

Bottom Line and The Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC) welcomed their first cohort of Generational Health Scholars! The BPHC’s established this scholarship in partnership with Bottom Line as part of their mission to work to protect and promote the health and well-being of all Boston residents, especially those impacted by racism and systemic inequities. This scholarship plays a vital roll in enabling our students to pursue and persist in the Healthcare and STEM fields. During this time, students learned about the Boston Public Health Commission's mission and reflected on what public health means. Students also built relationships with one another as they transition from high school to college.
