Nine years ago today, the breathtaking Tilikum Crossing, Bridge of the People, opened in Portland, OR as the largest transit-only bridge in the U.S. We served as the Engineer of Record for this award-winning cable-stayed bridge, which continues to live up to its name. “Tilikum” is a Chinook Wawa term that has come to describe friendly people. Everything about this TriMet bridge is designed to enhance human connections, increasing train, bus, and streetcar access to important destinations. Bicyclists and pedestrians also use it to access greenways and bike routes on both sides of the river. Happy Birthday, Tilikum Crossing! We are partnering with the City of Brantford, ON, Canada to launch an Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) program to curb speeding and enhance road safety. ASE systems use cameras and sensors to detect speeding vehicles and capture images, which are then processed, and fines are issued. This initiative builds on Ontario's 2017 Safer School Zone Act, as well as recent regulations that streamline penalty administration for municipalities. This project spotlights our role as an expert in ASE initiatives and improving road safety across Ontario and beyond.
