Rosita Burgos-Bueno, who recently celebrated her 25th UFT work anniversary, got her start working with the UFT Teacher Center, where she assisted in providing educators with professional development. Since then, she has held a number of responsibilities, including managing the union’s Teacher Union Day awards ceremony and annual Spring Education Conference. She finds it especially meaningful to see “teachers and school-based staff being rewarded for their hard work and dedication.” Rosita considers being promoted to serve as UFT President Michael Mulgrew’s executive assistant as a “moment that changed my life.” She adds: “working at this capacity with the entire executive floor has strengthened the love for the work that I do. I can go on and on about my journey at the UFT, but I will simply say that all the long hours and hard work have been worth it.” Color us delighted to have such a committed professional in Rosita!

A group of dedicated UFT educators is advocating for policies to integrate climate education across the curriculum and producing teaching resources to speed their adoption. “Climate education needs to be at the forefront of every curricular decision,” said Shakira Provasoli, a teacher at PS 333 in Manhattan and the winner of the Presidential Innovation Award for Environmental Educators. “To not teach students about what is really going on with our climate is to send them out into the world ill-equipped to design solutions to our current climate crisis.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/g7PWnkKg
