    One day after Brittnee gave birth to her son, Brayden, she learned that the flu she’d been fighting for weeks had developed into bacterial and viral pneumonia. She was put on a ventilator and after nearly two weeks, she became septic and her lungs collapsed. Learn more about Brittnee's incredible journey and how the ECMO team at UT Medical Center went to extraordinary lengths to save her life and support her and her family throughout her 70+ day hospital stay. Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is an innovative, lifesaving treatment. The patient is on ECMO because of a serious illness and the machine does the work for the patient’s lungs and heart, giving the patient time to heal.

    Big news for Big Orange fans this season. Starting this season, UT Medical Center will provide onsite care to fans at both Tennessee football and basketball games through our Event Medicine program. “UT Medical Center’s Event Medicine program will offer Vol fans the quality and expertise they’re accustomed to from UT Medical Center in a setting where they need it the most,” said Dr. Lisa Duncan, Senior Vice President for Centers of Excellence at UTMC. “We’re honored to serve as the health care provider for the Vols, and now for Vol fans attending home games.” Beginning with Tennessee’s home opener against Chattanooga this Saturday, fans will be able to access UT Medical Center resources throughout Neyland Stadium, including onsite clinics and four first-aid stations. Dr. Smith is an East Tennessee native and received his undergraduate education at East Tennessee State University. He attended medical school at Lincoln Memorial University and completed his neurology and epilepsy training at Augusta University in Augusta, Georgia. The Wall of Distinction was created to honor team members and physicians who have contributed to the mission and vision of UT Medical Center and who have, over the years helped it achieve prominence in health care. As part of the medical center’s 60th anniversary celebration in 2016, The John W. (Jack) Lacey, MD Wall of Distinction was unveiled and dedicated. Take charge of your cardiovascular health with discounted and FREE screenings including comprehensive cardiovascular risk assessments, heart function and valve screenings, COPD pulmonary screenings, and more. Additional health screenings for oral, head, neck, lung and breast cancer will also be available with prior registration.
