Are you a pepperoncini, jalapeno or a ghost pepper? The inquiring minds of Northstar California's Progression on Pedals women's bike clinics would like to know. This series of coached clinics are for and taught by women, designed to progress skills, and mark Northstar and the Tahoe region as a thriving women's bike community. “Programming catering to women comes naturally here because we’ve had a long line of women in leadership roles,” says Ashlee Lambert, senior manager of communications and avid mountain biker, explaining that Northstar’s last four general managers have been women, as have the past two mountain operations directors, as well as the current ski patrol director. “So there’s never been a shortage in finding women to participate in this type of activity.” Learn more about “gnarstar" and the Progressional on Pedals program from Powder, here: https://bit.ly/4dSPR1j

Meet Briony Johnson, Hotham Terrain Park Supervisor and long-time Hotham Skiing Company ripper. “I hope that taking on this role, I can encourage more females to apply for positions like mine...and that they will take that opportunity to start their journey. I haven’t necessarily had many females above me in my position and to lean on, and I think it’s a really special thing for me to be able to do that for the other females that will take on this job in the future. This resort, this community, and working here has completely changed my life in the best way possible.” If you're interested in learning more about jobs like Briony's across our company, you can learn more and join our team here: https://bit.ly/4cB1BES https://bit.ly/4dRyqhS

At the end of the 2023 winter season, Hotham Skiing Company hosted a group of Surfing Victoria's most promising participants from the Indigenous surfing programs for a special pilot program to showcase the mountain environment and highlight the opportunity for seasonal work in surfing and on-snow. These young Indigenous surfers were taught how to snowboard, as well as given a tour of mountain operations and hear about employment opportunities. Inspired by his visit, surfer Joe Murray decided to spend the winter 2024 season working at Hotham as a maintenance assistant. Since joining Hotham, Joe is now a highly valued member of the team and mountain community. “It’s absolutely awesome up here," said Joe. "I’ve fallen in love with the snow. It’s probably the longest time that I’ve been without surfing, but I’ve replaced it with snowboarding.”
