Although the Pacific Northwest boasts a vibrant ecosystem for climate tech innovation and a wealth of tech talent, there are barriers in place that keep climate entrepreneurs in the region from scaling ⛰️ What some (but not all) of these barriers we identified while conducting research for our recent report, "Catalyzing Change", include: → A lack of climate-focused venture capital for later-stage investments → A lack of physical spaces for entrepreneurs, investors, and support organizations to congregate → Bias faced in addition by women and BIPOC entrepreneurs The Pacific Northwest holds incredible potential to be a global leader in sustainable innovation, but these barriers have to first be addressed. 🎯 Access the full report on our site here: https://lnkd.in/g7AqA5Ax

We are delighted to announce the sixth annual Clean Energy Entrepreneur Workshop: August 22nd, 2024, 9:30 am – 4:00 pm at the Testbeds! This year's workshop will feature a keynote from Brandon Middaugh, Senior Director of the Microsoft Climate Innovation Fund, and will bring together entrepreneurs, university faculty, researchers and students working on clean energy technologies, industry members, and investment groups from across the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Attendees will hear from leaders in our clean energy innovation ecosystem, including investors, experienced entrepreneurs, and regional startup support organizations. The cost is $60 plus a small convenience fee on Eventbrite, and tickets include lunch and a happy hour. 🌱 Aina A. is leading efforts to tackle climate adaptation and resilience. VertueLab is raising a new fund to invest in climate companies that are tackling the response to warming and cutting greenhouse gas emissions. They were selected by the Washington State Department of Commerce as one of three recipients to receive a share of $49 million in federal dollars. Scaling climate solutions needs strategy and creative partnerships. VertueLab is bridging gaps in the ecosystem by supporting founders beyond the early stages, ensuring that climate innovations can scale effectively. It includes an accelerator, assistance in applying for grants, and efforts to boost support in impacted communities. As a nonprofit, they can attract foundation funds and handle mid- to later-stage de-risking—advantages traditional VC investors often lack. They've invested in 80+ companies, including Ren Energy, and OpConnect. 🔷 Aina shares her thoughts here on the #climate challenges. Of particular note, is on the topic of adaptation and resilience, as the stepchild of climate tech....we're not spending enough time and resources thinking about how we're going to live now as the effects are being felt.
