We gathered in Arizona with #AffiliatesUnidos and key community leaders to discuss the serious implications of Proposition 314. From increasing racial profiling to limiting law enforcement accountability, this proposed immigration measure could have long-lasting, negative effects in the state if voted in favor of in the November election. During our discussion, we shed light on the potential consequences our communities could face. In response, we are mobilizing collectively to raise awareness, empower voters and offer critical resources to those directly impacted by this. Latinos in Arizona have the right to feel safe in the state they call home. #UnidosUS

We are UnidosUS, the largest national Latino civil rights and advocacy organization in the United States, formerly known as the National Council of La Raza (NCLR). Our mission is to build a stronger America by creating opportunities for the Latino community. To achieve this, we conduct applied research, policy analysis, and advocacy, providing a Latino perspective in key areas such as civil rights and immigration, education, health, housing & financial empowerment, racial equity, voting & political empowerment, and workforce development. Through #AffiliatesUnidos, our network of affiliated community-based organizations (CBOs), we reach millions of Latinos each year across the United States and Puerto Rico. We provide our Affiliates with capacity-building assistance to improve their work at the state and local level to advance opportunities for individuals and families.

Research shows that early exposure to career options is essential for students. However, many youth in our community lack access to opportunities to gain that experience, which puts them at a disadvantage in our nation’s competitive economy. This impacts their lifelong earnings potential—Latino median household wealth stands at $49,000, compared to $250,000 for white households. We recently gathered with #AffiliatesUnidos and partners at Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, to discuss the importance of career pathways programs as part of the solution. We called for policy recommendations and investments—such as community block grants—to help organizations pilot, evaluate, and grow federal pathways navigation initiatives to better serve Latino youth throughout their educational journey. The result: more equitable pathways to degree completion and increased wealth mobility for Hispanic students. Each year we give the Ruben Salazar Award for Communications to an individual who has dedicated their life to promoting the accurate and positive portrayal of the historical, political, economic, and cultural contributions of Latinos to U.S. society. In 2024, we are proud to honor Héctor Tobar with this award for being one of the country’s leading voices of the Latino narrative and an advocate for Latin America. From his New York Times bestseller Deep Down Dark: The Untold Stories of 33 Men Buried in a Chilean Mine, and the Miracle That Set Them Free—later adapted into the film “The 33”—to his newest book in which he illustrates the multiple facets of the Latino experience, we celebrate his contributions and efforts to tell the true stories of the Hispanic community. #UnidosUS24

Earlier this month, our health team members David Liendo and Pedro D. Martinez presented at the 2024 National Immunization Conference. They discussed how community-based organizations, like our #AffiliatesUnidos, can leverage data to increase vaccination rates, the essential role that collaboration plays in these efforts and the lasting impact of building healthier communities. #UnidosUS #NIC2024 #EsperanzaHope4All

Latinos contribute to our nation’s workforce every day. And from closing the Latina wage gap to investing in digital skills, we collaborate with our #AffiliatesUnidos and partners to ensure Latinos are provided with the support and training they need to start or excel in their career. This week in Oregon we brought together the U.S. Department of Commerce, members of Congress, stakeholders and our Affiliates to highlight the impact and needs of the Hispanic labor force. Together, we discussed career pathway programs in the manufacturing sector, the vital role of Hispanic Serving Institutions and community organizations, and ways to strengthen employer partnerships. It's estimated that by 2030 one out of five U.S. workers will be Hispanic. Their success will be crucial to our country's future. We thank all of those who joined us and helped us achieve our mission to ensure Latinos can access good, family-sustaining jobs.
