Today's #WelcomingWeek2024 theme, Connected Communities, is all about creating trust and understanding among community members. This year, Welcoming Week event hosts are connecting community members across 8 countries, including France and Poland: two countries hosting Welcoming Week events for the first time! 🎉 Here are just a few of the events happening internationally this #WelcomingWeek2024. #WelcomingWeek2024 We already start with great enthusiasm the Welcoming Week in Mexico 2024. With it we want to reinforce from Asmovilidad the importance of listening to the people who are today in our country, of exchanging with the Mexican community, of informing and making life stories known, of reaffirming that all people regardless of their place of origin, have the opportunity to be happy and to call Mexico their home. It will be 10 days where in Mexico City, in the City of Queretaro, and in the City of Tijuana we will open spaces and bring messages, testimonies, and work carried out by other organizations in favor of migrants, refugees. If you are in another state you can also join, share your intercultural activities with us. During #WelcomingWeek2024, we partnered with our friend Bob McKinnon, a New York Times bestselling author, to deliver Welcome Wagons of books to dozens of schools and community organizations across the U.S. These wagons are filled with books that help kids feel welcomed and supported in unfamiliar situations, like adjusting to a new school. The wagons also feature Bob's latest book, "America's Dreaming" -- a story about finding inspiration in social justice leaders of the past to build a better, more welcoming future. We brought a Welcome Wagon to yesterday's #WelcomingWeek2024 kickoff event in Detroit, co-hosted by Welcoming America, Global Detroit, and the City of Detroit, and sponsored by One Percent For America. Welcoming Week, an initiative of Y-USA's national partner Welcoming America. It is an annual event that celebrates the nationwide movement of communities that fully embrace new Americans and their contributions to the social fabric of our country. During Welcoming Week, communities bring together immigrants and U.S.-born residents to promote cross-cultural understanding raise awareness of the benefits of welcoming everyone. Wednesday 9/18: Y Story Day - come and visit us and hear about our members and staff as they share their stories from near and wide. Today, nearly 500 state & local elected officials from all 50 states & Washington, D.C. have signed onto a bipartisan letter to President Biden urging him to #ProtectRefuge. This represents a strong state & local commitment to strengthen U.S. refugee resettlement. https://lnkd.in/gGfBHNyk

Detroit-bound, and very excited to kick off Welcoming America's #WelcomingWeek2024 with our incredible partners at Global Detroit and the City of Detroit, as well as #welcoming leaders from across the state of #Michigan. As one of the first states in the country to invest in welcoming efforts, local leaders in the Wolverine State have long led the way in reminding us that values and pragmatism go hand in hand. Today, immigrants in Michigan have accounted for nearly 60% of growth in a state working hard to address population loss, and represent 7% of the population but contribute to nearly 10% of overall GDP. From Detroit to Kent County, local leaders in business, government, faith, community and economic development, and residents have together created comprehensive welcoming plans that remove barriers to opportunity and create a culture of #belonging and neighborly connection for everyone. We're excited to bring our annual conference, #WelcomingInteractive, to Detroit in May 2025, and to be kicking off a truly global celebration of welcoming values in a place whose local leaders have contributed so much to the worldwide #welcoming movement.
