WRA is an environmental consultancy that’s making a net positive impact. As a tenacious team of planners, engineers, and scientists, we believe in leaving the lands we love better than we found them. We partner with public agencies, non-profits, and private entities on multidiscipline projects in a variety of markets. From planning and design, through entitlement and post-construction, we have your back. Our clients lean on us to navigate them through tricky projects and achieve benefits for both the natural environment and local communities. From our roots in wetland research and supporting our first clients in the Bay Area following the inception of the federal Clean Water Act, we have more than 40 years of experience in California's diverse ecoregions. This gives us an understanding of the unique habitats throughout the state and the growing needs of local communities. While our roots are in California, we have supported clients in nearly 30 states and counting. WRA is proud to be an employee-owned, certified small business (SB-PW ref. #13333) with 100 team members working from four offices in California, and a growing distributed workforce throughout the West.

Our Restoration Ecology Director, Ashley Zavagno, CERP, CE recently volunteered with the Upper Deschutes Watershed Council to perform macroinvertebrate sampling on Whychus Creek (a tributary of the Deschutes). She found some big stoneflies and accidentally caught a juvenile brown trout (non-native). It was a beautiful day on the river!

We are excited to introduce Leslie Scott. She recently joined WRA Landscape Restoration as a Senior Restoration Project Manager and brings over 13 years of experience in natural resources management. At WRA-LR, Leslie is managing the field crews performing ecological restoration services including native plant out-planting, site maintenance and irrigation, invasive plant mapping and control, stream bank stabilization, erosion control, and fire fuel management. On World Nature Conservation Day, WRA congratulates Darwin Mayhew on his recent publication - check it out!
Mesopredator release is the re-ordering of food chains caused by apex predator loss, allowing medium-sized #carnivore populations to increase. This impacts these species’ prey in turn. A new paper led by Darwin Mayhew explores this process in relation to the loss of Sunda #clouded #leopards and #forest integrity in #Borneo. Results suggest that the loss of forest integrity triggers mesopredator population increase, as seen in rising Sunda leopard cat numbers, which threatens some terrestrial birds such as pittas and Bulwer’s pheasants. This work highlights the need for more research into species interactions to inform holistic conservation efforts. Access the paper here: https://lnkd.in/decBCZqc
