Happy National Dog Day 🐾! While we adore our furry companions 🐶, it's essential to address what to do with their excrement! Surprisingly, when pet waste is left on the ground, it breaks down and can contaminate our water supply by seeping into rivers 🏞️, streams, creeks, and other nearby water sources 🌊. The Centers for Disease Control warn that pet waste carries various bacteria, parasites, and diseases that can be transmitted to humans. To handle pet waste responsibly, consider composting it or burying it!

In 2024, the Trees for Wildlife™ 🌳 program supported the planting and distribution of more than 59,000 native trees to enhance climate and ecosystem resilience 🤩. YEA 🐸 hosted close to 60 environmental events involving over 6,000 participants, emphasizing the importance of tree benefits and habitat restoration. Numerous native trees were planted, invasive plants were cleared, and trees were provided for home planting 💚. Say “Hello” 👋 to Joey Davis our new environmental educator at YEA! Since childhood, she’s been fascinated by nature, encouraged by her parents to explore outdoors 🏕️, fostering her love for native wildlife. Graduating from the environmental science and Everglades 🐊 restoration program at South Plantation High School, Joey was introduced to YEA 🐸! The hands-on activities were always a highlight and our enthusiasm inspired her to know more. Despite living in South Florida, she never heard of the Everglades until YEA took her class for a school field trip there. Now, as Joey pursues her environmental science degree, her goal is to combat climate change and preserve the Everglades 🤩. Whether through volunteering, reducing consumption, expanding knowledge, or supporting natural parks 🌲, she’s committed to making a difference. Environmental education plays a crucial role in fostering connections between people and the environment 🌎.
