    I was named Employee of the Month out of 25 employees, along with a photographer, for my in-depth coverage of a three-alarm fire that destroyed four apartment buildings under construction in Pullman around 3:15 a.m. on July 14, 2013. I found out about the fire at 3:30 a.m. and was at the scene by 3:50 a.m. I provided frequent updates on Facebook, Twitter, and dnews.com before turning in a 30-inch story for the next day's paper.

    The Sigma Alpha Iota Sword of Honor award is given to a young woman who has fulfilled all duties in each office she has held in SAI and has shown strong leadership. Sigma Alpha Iota is a national women's music fraternity. I was awarded the Sword of Honor for my work as the 2012-2013 Editor for the SAI Sigma Zeta chapter.
