Biden Announces an Increase in HydyoEnergy Investment

As part of President Biden's Investing in America initiative, the DOE has announced a roughly $600 million investment in hydropower technologies and marine power.

This is the most significant DOE investment in both technologies, with the potential to contribute 12 gigatonnes of energy to the grid simply by modernizing old hydropower stations.

Pumped storage hydropower is a renewable energy source with enormous promise, particularly for assisting solar and wind generation with storage.

According to the International Hydropower Association, worldwide pumped storage hydropower facilities presently store up to 9,000 gigatonnes of electricity, and there is plenty of room for the technology to grow in the United States.

The DOE not only investigated the viability of hydropower project locations in Alaska, but the study also provides advise on building clean energy policies and regulations.

Furthermore, the Argonne lab has looked into ways to reduce the environmental impact of hydropower technologies.
