In a recent study published in Foot & Ankle Orthopedics, the authors concluded that “there will be a paradigm shift in fibular fixation care associated with improved outcomes [and] lower complication profiles…” and that “…nailing will become a new ‘gold standard.’” The study concluded that using a fibular nail with both proximal and distal fixation offered an alternative to ORIF plating with the potential for lower complication rates and fewer implant removals.
