World Water Week, an annual event during which global water-related challenges and solutions are discussed, is now taking place. #Data is key. More accurate data on freshwater ecosystems is needed to guide interventions to where the need is greatest and improve sustainable water management. Similarly, data is crucial not only for companies' water strategies but also for institutions that need to make informed investment decisions. ISS ESG’s Water Risk Rating enables investors to assess water risks in their portfolios by providing a holistic assessment of a company's overall freshwater-related risks and efforts at mitigation. Our data shows that: 👉 Around 16 percent of 7,800 rated companies have high exposure to freshwater risks that are unaddressed or inadequately managed. 👉 More than 40 percent have a medium risk. 👉 Forty-one percent of companies fall into the negligible or low water risk categories, which is a slight improvement on the data from two years ago.
