𝑩𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒕 𝑪𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆𝒓 𝑨𝒘𝒂𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝑮𝒆𝒏𝒆 𝑺𝒑𝒐𝒕𝒍𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕: 𝑼𝒏𝒎𝒂𝒔𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑨𝑻𝑴🔮    Greetings, from the CKB witches and wizards 🧙🧙♀️! This Halloween, we're unwrapping a gene spotlight that's more treat than trick. Let's delve into the mysterious world of gene variants and shed light on ATM. No need to be spooked, we're your trusty guides through this genetic maze. So, grab your metaphorical trick-or-treat bags as we fill them with enlightening facts! 🍬    ATM, or Ataxia Telangiectasia Mutated belongs to the serine-threonine kinase family. ATM plays a key role in DNA repair by sensing DNA damage and activating to recruit repair proteins that restore integrity of the DNA. But beware👻, not all variants play nice with ATM. Take, for instance, ATM S707P, a missense mutation that results in decreased Atm protein expression. S707P is associated with a modest increased risk of breast cancer.    ATM S707P is one of 393 variants currently housed in JAX CKB CORE. You can unlock the secrets of all ATM variants for free at our portal of genetic knowledge: https://ckbhome.jax.org/. And the treats keep coming! Our gene grid has been freshly updated this month, so you can explore not only ATM but also 49 other publicly available genes.    Pay a visit to our site to unravel the mysteries of tumor suppressor genes. Be sure to join us next month for another gene spotlight. Together, we'll continue to demystify the complex world of genetics. Happy Halloween and happy learning! 🎃🔬     #BreastCancerAwareness #GeneSpotlight #halloweenfun #CKBSpotlight #TheJacksonLaboratory The Jackson Laboratory
