Coroner identifies 15-year-old boy killed in weekend West Ashley shooting

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - The Charleston County Coroner’s Office has released the name of the boy killed late Saturday night in a shooting at a West Ashley apartment complex.

Rakeem Xavier Jordan Baker, 15, died at the scene of the shooting as a result of a gunshot wound, Coroner Bobbi Jo O’Neal said.

The shooting happened at approximately 11:53 p.m. at the Palmilla Apartments on Ashley River Road, Charleston Police Sgt. Terry Cherry said.

Dispatchers received a call about several shots being fired and a person lying on the ground, he said.

Officers arrived and found a teenager suffering from several gunshot wounds, police say. They attempted to provide aid until EMS arrived but the victim died at the scene, Cherry said.

There was no immediate word on whether any arrests have been made.
