Critics Consensus

A Bridge Too Far is a war movie too long, although top-notch talent on both sides of the camera keeps the end result consistently watchable.

Will Jones Minneapolis Star Tribune The movie itself crumples from an excess of success, since by the time all the stars and rumbling war toys have justified their places in the budget, A Bridge Too Far has become an hour too long. Oct 26, 2021 Full Review Christy Lemire ChristyLemire.com It would seem impossible to go wrong with such an incredible, all-star cast - which makes A Bridge Too Far such a frustrating misfire (no pun intended). Rated: 2/4 Jul 2, 2018 Full Review Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times The movie's big and expensive and filled with stars, but it's not an epic. It's the longest B-grade war movie ever made. Rated: 2/4 Jul 2, 2018 Full Review Rene Jordan El Nuevo Herald (Miami) It's an impressive experience, stunning, but in the end profoundly depressive. [Full review in Spanish] Aug 16, 2023 Full Review Steve Warren The Barb (Atlanta) If you go to see it because you're a fan of any of the stars, you'll feel ripped off. May 5, 2023 Full Review Tony Vandenberg Washington Blade As fine a war epic as you will ever see. May 23, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews

Gerald H a bridge too long. an unnecessarily huge star-ensemble. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/13/24 Full Review alan g A movie too long. An ensemble cast in the style of "The Longest Day", but fails to carry the day, just like the ww2 operation. An action movie with little action. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/20/24 Full Review Zinjx W Richard Attenborough's ''A Bridge Too Far'' is a grandiose war film featuring one movie star after another. All time top WW2 movie. Top movie score by composer John Addison. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/07/24 Full Review joey t One of the best war films over the years I enjoyed in 1977 and now watching it for my 20th time. Richard Attenborough did a great job on directing all the actors did a great job. The cinematography the sound and music was great plus it's just a great film. I Put it up there with one of my top 10 films of all time next to the movie Patton. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/07/24 Full Review Dean S Brilliant! Such a well made film about the doomed "Market Garden" mission that was supposed to end the war by Christmas. An amazing cast of actors come together in a proper WW2 classic. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/25/24 Full Review Alec B There's enough good individual scenes to get you through but I do feel like a lot of this could have been trimmed to narrow the focus which might have made the tragedy more effective. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/09/24 Full Review Read all reviews
