Critics Consensus

Silly premise notwithstanding, this is a well-made Hollywood movie: Thrilling and exciting action with just enough characterization.

Logan Hill New York Magazine/Vulture It's more of a throwback to Horatio Alger's Ragged Dick, a rags-to-middle-class-respectability tale about the humble joy of old-fashioned decency. Nov 14, 2018 Full Review Tom Charity CNN.com It's as corny as Kansas, but the mix of old fashioned heart and new fangled animatronic cyber tech will make this picture a winner for fathers and sons. Nov 14, 2018 Full Review Shawn Levy New York Times All things considered, it is a well-wrought piece of entertainment, confidently paced, although its necessary subplots are little more than dutiful filler sandwiched between fight sequences. Nov 6, 2018 Full Review Iván Kazi EscribiendoCine The truth is that it is a fun film and its few inconsistencies are insignificant compared to the outstanding special effects and the compelling thematic thread. Tanner Y It may not be the best movie of all time, but it is my all-time favorite. They didn’t try to go for something extremely complex, but they didn’t need to. Great acting, great music, and outstanding visual effects. This is what movies are all about. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/31/24 Full Review Audience Member i like its vibes which kinda carries the movie for me and it feels a bit rushed ,but still i'd recommend 9/10 Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 07/28/24 Full Review Dale R Hugh Jackman stars as an out-of-luck ex-boxer who bonds with his son over robot boxing matches. Both Hugh Jackman and Dakota Goyo, who plays the son, do a great job acting in this movie. In the side roles Evangeline Lilly and Anthony Mackie are also standouts. The special effects are also well done and make the idea of giant humanoid robots fighting plausible. The story of the film isn’t special or stand out, but it isn’t bad and makes the film worth a watch. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/07/24 Full Review Gabor G Awfully scripted, just plain silly. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 07/01/24 Full Review Audience Member A very good movie overall. It might be one of the gems of old movies. Not only are the robots pretty realistic, but the story is very interesting. It stood well against the test of time since i had watched it in the early days. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/27/24 Full Review Audience Member Really awesome movie with a great concept, cool fights and good story development.
