2019 RACIAL EQUITY INDICATOR REPORT
People of color make up approximately 75% of San Antonio’s population, and that percentage is increasing. The prosperity of the city and the nation will increasingly depend on the social, health, and economic wellbeing of people of color.
Inequities by race are vast and deep in cities throughout the nation, including in San Antonio. The City of San Antonio is committed to closing these racial outcome gaps, and to applying equity principles and practices to all our procedures and all our decision-making.
Advancing equity in the City of San Antonio requires an intentional and focused approach to address inequities head on, so that in the future one’s identity can no longer be used to predict one’s success or one’s outcomes.
Cities are equitable when all residents — regardless of their race/ethnicity, nativity, gender, income, neighborhood of residence, or other characteristics — are fully able to participate in the city’s economic vitality, contribute to the region’s readiness for the future, and connect to the region’s assets and resources. of San Antonio, equity means that our policy-making, service delivery, and distribution of resources account
for the different histories, challenges, and needs of the people we serve.
