V. Introduction/ Rationale:
Plant is an important source of medicine and plays a key role in world health. Medicinal herbs or
plants have been known to be an important potential source of therapeutics or curative aids. The use of
medicinal and herbal plants has attained a commanding role in health systems all over the world. This
involves the use of medicinal plants not only for treatment of disease but also a potential material for
maintaining good health and conditions.

Isulan Central School SPED Center has been advocating environment friendly activities in their
Greening Program by planting herbal and medicinal plants. These plants had been grown or collected
and the traditional knowledge about the plants and their uses had been handed down by word of mouth
from generation to generation. But with the change of lifestyles, the younger generation is losing this
knowledge. We urgently need to help young people learn about the fascinating world of herbal plants,
their many uses, and the joy of seeing them grow and using them, especially here in school.

Promoting Herbal Garden in school will help learners, teachers and stakeholders learn about, and
recognize the importance of herbal plants that are part of our everyday life. At the same time we aimed
awareness of the need for conservation and sustainability.
