Harvest Moon: Light of Hope Walkthrough and Guide

Crop Mutation Almanac

When planted under certain conditions, crops have the potential to mutate into a completely different crop, adding an
extra aspect into raising crops. If you want to grow 'em all, you'll have to be creative when planting and experiment with
different types of terrain, weather conditions, seasons, and even planting certain crops next to each other. Some crops
will mutate very easily; you may wake up one morning to find that they've mutated overnight - while others are a bit more
tricky to master. This almanac serves as your guide to discovering them all.

Terrain

There are four different types of terrain which you will need to familiarize yourself with if you want to master crop
mutations, as well as interpret this guide. For the purposes of this guide, we will refer to the terrain types as "Grassy",
"Patchy", "Swampy", and "Dry".

Grassy: A rich green terrain found on your farmland.

Patchy: A mix between grass and dirt found in the lower area of the mountains.
Swampy: Marshy wet terrain found at the beach.
Dry: Cracked and harsh, this terrain is found at the top of the mountain.

Great Crops

Great crops are high quality versions of crops that will grow when planted in the crop's preferred season and terrain.
Mutated crops also have a "great" version of themselves, which can be achieved by acquiring and planting the respective
mutated crop's seeds, although they can mutate on their own as well. They do not require fertilizer, but they will have a
higher chance of producing their "great" version if fertilized at least once. Since any crop can be "great" and the method to
get them are all the same, they will not be included in the tables below.

“Multi-Harvest” Mutated Crops

When a “multi-harvest” crop such as corn mutates into something like fodder corn, the crop will now regrow as the
mutated crop every time. In other words, once a crop mutates, it remains as its mutated version. This is useful since it
helps with acquiring enough crops to sell to unlock the mutated crop's seeds.

Going into the Next Season

Be careful when planting crops expected to mutate, since they must finish their growth cycle within the current season in
order to mutate. However, any regrowing crops that have mutated such as fodder corn will remain in their mutated form
when the season crosses over, provided they do not wither. Naturally, crops planted out of the season they mutate in will
not mutate.

Acquiring Seeds for Mutated Crops

You can unlock Mutation Seeds for purchase by simply selling at least 10 of a specific mutated crop. Most mutation seeds
will unlock after selling 10 of the mutation, but some require you to sell more of them. It does not matter if you sell the
mutation to Sam, Carol, or Bastian, or sell a "great" variation; the game will tally them all the same. Once unlocked, the
mutated crop seeds will be available for purchase from Sam, or from Carol in the case of mutated flowers.

I removed a comment just now so I am gonna post this here as a heads up:

I appreciate any help guys, but please do not link external sources, especially ones involving downloads, on this guide! If you
would like to contribute just get in touch with me

When you say "special fertilizer" what do you mean exactly? I'm having trouble getting the red zepplin! Thanks for the guide
it has made this much easier, hahaha

Saku
Jun 19, 18 08:33am

Sorry! I need to update that. By special fertilizer I mean tomato blend. Bear in mind that red zeppelins are rare so you
may be growing a lot of San Marzanos. I got best results by using tomato blend at least twice when growing them. And
you’re welcome!

I cannot get Asparagus to grow in patchy soil in the spring, even after I fertilize it, it stays seeds. Such a waste of time and
money, the guide is clearly wrong.

Saku
Jun 25, 18 09:41pm

Bear in mind that Asparagus takes almost half a month to grow - 12 days. So they will remain as “seeds” for a while.
They are also a very fragile plant and do not grow well out of season. So they will require more care (more fertilizing)
than normal in the spring time to prevent wilting. I have verified their mutatations so if you have continued problems let
me know and I can try to assist you further.

So I discovered a hack, some may say it is a cheat instead, but tomato-tomatoe. Right before you sleep for the night
before a crop is due to appear, if you save and wake up to find only a few of your mutations have happened, you simply
load the game back to right before you slept. Once it’s loaded simply sleep (no need to save again) and wake up and check
to see if the output of mutations is better. It may take a few tries but I have more than doubled my mutation outputs given
simply by doing this. Definitely handy when it comes to time and resources!

We appear to have the same way of thinking lol. I used this cheat especially for one-time harvest crops that need more
than 20 to unlock. XD

I plant plenty of brown carrot in dry soil with fertilizer and none of them turn into mandrake. Whats wrong can you help meh

Saku
Jul 22, 18 08:02am

You actually need to use carrot blend at least once for them to mutate. Apologies, I will correct the guide.

Kurnia
Jul 22, 18 04:20pm

Okay, thankyou. Is it the same for phalanx? I also use the asparagus blend?

Saku
Jul 23, 18 07:57pm

It should be Asparagus Blend. I went through and updated everything so it should all be correct now. Let me know if you
notice any other discrepancies!

To get purple peppers, plant red peppers in dry, during spring, no fertilizer

Gomene
Sep 5, 18 10:23pm

I'm not sure exactly how to get the patchy and dry land types. I'm still fairly new in the game (I just unlocked Soliel) and I'm
used to the games on portable devices where you can change the height of the land on your farm yourself, but I don't have
that option for LOH on the PC.

Any help would be great.

Saku
Sep 5, 18 10:30pm

Hi there! The land types are fixed in this version of HM. Dry is found at the top of the mountain, while patchy is found in
the two lower level fields on the mountain. Marshy is at the beach. Hope this helps!

Planted 40 tomatoes on dry in summer and got no San Marzanos at all, even with fertilizer...but when tried again but with
20 tomatoes on Dry and used tomato blend twice on all 20...I only got 2 San Marzanos.

Should you use the fertilizer once or more to get the mutation, even with the yellow guy's help?
Saku
Sep 21, 18 10:33am

It varies by mutation. Most of the earlier mutations that you can achieve within the first year can be accomplished with
only fertilizing once. Other late game mutations, particularly once you had to chain to get (a mutation of a mutation) can
require multiple fertilizers. If the “farming friend” icon is also indicating that the crop is low health, it is generally a good
idea to fertilize more than once, or alternate between special blend and regular fertilizer. (Crops that require special
blend usually only require one instance of the special blend however). But it still varies, and you will get used to it and
develop intuition as you go. Also, Rowan does not help in this game

Kay, been wondering this for awhile now...when I go to water crops I tend to notice the bubble that pops
up...sometimes blue with dizzy symbols, plain white or Gold....I know the Gold means higher chances for Great crops
or Mutated....but what does the blue with dizzy and plain white mean?

it takes way more than ten red onions to unlock. Not sure of the exact number, but I'm at about twenty five and they still
haven't unlocked on Sam.

Effing stupid.

I try ro plant blackcurrent that you show on the list, but it doesn’t work. Do I need to add the berry blend as well?

I also plant barley for rye. it needs more days to crop but it turns spring in 2 days. How could I make them cross the season
? Most of time they will die.

How many times do you need to use the special fertilizers? Will it still work if you use them only once?

Saku
Dec 3, 18 08:39pm

It varies by crop. Typically the earlier mutations will only require once. And check the health status of the crop daily, if it is
unhealthy you may need to fertilize again. For these, I usually use one special blend (sometimes 2) and then supplement
with regular fertilizer for the rest of the growth. For most crops, you should only require once of the special blend. Using
more will just increase the chance for more seeds to mutate.

Help me Please !
I want the mutation of the snowman plant. why did the mellow yellow plant die on the third day? even though I have given
bland melon

Saku
Jan 9, 19 08:52am

Start by fertilizing with Melon Blend, then follow up each day with regular fertilizer. Mellow Yellow is very weak in winter
and will die easily. Pay attention to the icon that appears over the plants, if it is in a “bad mood” then you need to fertilize
to keep it alive - this applies to all plants.
bobbyseptemmy
Jan 9, 19 05:49pm

i already have to do it.. but it still die. the first day, I gave melon fertilizer. and the second day, I gave regular fertilizer.
but all the plants still die. I planted 30 mellow yellow, and all died on the third day

To get pearl onions I’m pretty sure you need to plant them in individual rows with an empty row between them or they don’t
mutate.

@Karen, you can plant it in basic form, but Viola is quite rare though. In my case, I got only 1-2 violas mutated from 30
purple pansies. I planted it in grassy during winter.

I just want to know two thing for patchy land is that by Sofia’s house or the one that’s up further by gus’s house? Also do
you have to fertilize them more then once if your using ex berry blend would you keep having to use it until the harvest of the
plant or just once or twice ??!? Please and thank you

H O W do you get cabbage blend? I got it from doing a request a long time ago and used it but I see there’s no way to buy it,

and I don’t have an option to make it anywhere. I know what I’d need to make it if possible tho but I really need it for another

MTC

Keep fulfilling requests--I can't remember if it's Dean's requests or Carol's, but one of them will give you fertilizer recipes,
and I believe the other allows you to buy fertilizer blends.
