1. INTRODUCTION

This method statement outline the proper termite treatment procedure around the
building perimeter. Anti-termite treatment is a process in which soil treatment is
applied to a building in the early stages of its construction. The purpose of anti-termite
treatment is to provide the building with a chemical barrier against the sub-terrain
termites. This activity should be performed with strict compliance and implementation
of safety requirements. And the termite treatment will be carried out by a specialized
sub-contractor Lankem Ceylon PLC.

2. OBJECTIVE

The objective of this method statement is to inform the consultants and the client, the
method and procedure that Sanken Construction (Pvt.) Ltd. shall follow for the termite
treatment work and to ensure all engineers and workers at site are following the well-
defined and safe methods and procedures.

3. REFERENCES

 Power Sprayer

5. PROCEDURE

5.1 Preliminary preparation

Approved materials will be used for termite treatment. Before the treatment process,
soil should be in required level for concreting works because after the treatment
process cutting or filling will not be allowed. All the underground electrical cable and
water lines will be point-out before commencing this service. And water supply and
electricity should be supplied continuously for the termite treatment process.

5.2 Treatment process

The chemical ( Biflex Bifenthrin 100g/l) will be used in treating the site. We recommend the use of Biflex
Bifenthrin for the following reasons:
 Kills almost all species of termites
 Gives long lasting protection from termites
 Used for Barrier treatment in Pre and Post Construction.
 Registered under pesticide act of Sri Lanka No.33 of 180
 Is a unique product recommended worldwide for the control of termites

The anti-termite treatment works will be carried out in two stages, as follows:

Stage One

Spray Treatment
 When the foundation is at the damp-proof course level and ready for floor
concreting, the entire soil area within the foundation will be treated with Bifenthrin
solution at the rate of 5 liters per square meter of soil area to create a horizontal
barrier.
Dilution rate – 1:200 liters of water

 Pressure impregnates Bifenthrin solution to the back filled soils to create a

vertical chemical barrier.
Dilution Rate – 1:200 liters of water

Inject Treatment (Backfilled area only)

 Pressure impregnates Biflex Bifenthrin solution to the back filled soils to create a vertical
chemical barrier. (The floor will be drilled 3 ft intervals right round the foundation up to 1 ft
depth)
Pressure –3 to 4 bars
Dilution Rate – 1:200 litres of water

Stage Two
 After landscaping is completed on the site, a chemical barrier will be created around the
building by injecting Bifenthrin solution at the rate of 5 liters per square meter of soil
area.
Dilution Rate – 1:200 liters of water (inject only)

6. POINTS TO BE CONSIDER BEFORE AND AFTER THE TREATMENT

PROCESS

6.1 Prior to carrying out the treatment ensure the following

 All underground electric cables, water lines and/or any other cables and lines, of
whatsoever nature, are pointed out to our staff so as to ensure the safety of such
underground cabled and/or lines.
 Soil is free from any timber particles, large gravel etc.
 Soil is ready for concreting.
 Water and electricity is available at the site.

6.2 After completion of the 1st stage and 2nd stage of termite treatment

After completion of Stage 1 of the treatment please comply with the following in order to
ensure optimal protection:
 The concrete floor is completed soon after completion of the stage-1 and no later
than 48 hours from completion of Stage-1.
 All pens and/or wood panels are removed soon after levelling the concrete, and Stage-
2 is commenced within 6 months, at the latest, from the completion of Stage-1.

After completion of Stage 1 and/or Stage 2 please comply with the following in order to
ensure optimal performance of the chemical and optimal protection from the treatment:
 There is no soil disturbance of the treated area, whatsoever
 The soil type of the treated area is not altered in any manner whatsoever
 New soil is not introduced to the treated area
 The treated structure and/or the area is not modified, altered or otherwise
changed, and
 Reasonable measures are taken to eliminate faulty plumbing and/or leaks, dampness
and condensation from drains, gutters, toilets, down spouts, roofs, windows,
ceilings etc.

7. QUALITY ASSURANCE AND QUALITY CHECK

For the purpose of quality controlling, the inspection will be carried out and maintain the
quality of construction work. Once the Contractors’ Engineer and the QA/QC Engineer
carried out the inspection, Engineers’ representative will carry out his inspection along
with the Contractors’ QA/QC Engineer and make the final approval to proceed the work.
inspection and monitoring will also be done to execute a safe work.

QA/QC inspection will be done under following criteria

 Required treatment area
 Mixing ratio
 Depth of treatment
 Interval of treatment

8. SAFETY PLAN

 All the people who are engaged with this work should wear Mask, gloves and PPE
 People, who are working with chemicals, should be a skilled person and should
inform to relevant parties before starting the work.
 Required area will be barricaded.
 Do not inject or spray the chemical directly to water, or to areas where surface water is
present.
 Do not use or store near heat or open flame.
 All people who are entering to the site premises should follow the safety rules and they
should aware the safety rules before entering the site.
 Safety officer will acknowledge all the people regarding the site safety. 5|P a ge

8.1 Cause of Hazard and Control measure Cause

of Hazards
 Unqualified workers
 Improper inspection of power tools before use
 Improper use of PPE
 Prolong exposure to chemicals

Control Measure
 Ensure all tools are checked for their good working condition prior to the start of the
job by operators.

 Ensure trained and experienced employees are assigned to the job.

 Ensure no defected/ handmade/ modified tools are available at site.
 Respiratory protection, and standard PPE’s to be worn at all the times.

Acute Toxicity
Large doses of bifenthrin ingested by laboratory animals produced signs of toxicity including convulsions, tremors and bloody nasal discharge.
Bifenthrin does not cause acute delayed neurotoxicity. Experience to date indicates that contact with bifenthrin may occasionally produce skin
sensations such as rashes, numbing, burning or tingling. These sensations are reversible and usually subside within 12 hours.
