Question 10 – 14 are based on the following passage. Read the passage and then

Jeju Island

Jeju Island is the largest island of South Korea, with an area of 1 846km2. It
is also one of the nine provinces of the country. Jeju Island is the smallest of
all of the provinces and it was formed as a result of a volcanic eruption.

Jeju City is the capital of Jeju Island. Halla Mountain is the most
popular tourist attraction of this island. It is also the tallest mountain in
South Korea, with a height of 1 950 metres. The weather on the island is
pleasant, not too cold or too hot. Therefore, it is a suitable home to a lot of
insects, mammals, reptiles and birds.

Jeju Island is one of the new seven natural wonders of the world. The
peak of the Halla Mountain looks like a giant crater, and is actually a dormant
volcano, which means it has been inactive for years. There is a lake on Halla
Mountain called Baengnokdam, which means ‘white deer lake’. There are five
hiking trails for tourists to visit this wonderful place.

Asraf bin Alleh, running

I started running about a year ago. At first, I just ran 1 or 2

kilometres, but I now I can run further. I can run faster too.
I’ve joined a running club at my school. I didn’t know any of
the members before, but now most of them are my friends. My dad was a
keen runner when he was younger. He was really fit and he won a lot of
competitions. However, he stopped after he injured his leg. Actually, I need
to order some new pair of running shoes. They don’t have to cost a lot as I
don’t think the expensive ones can make me run faster.

Benjamin Lim, playing basketball

I started playing basketball when I was six because I was

influenced by LeBron James – a famous basketball player. I
play basketball every evening in the park. There is a
basketball court and it is only 5 minutes from my house. So, I
often go there on foot. I usually practice playing basketball on my own, but
sometimes my cousin is there too. He’s a beginner, and I’m teaching him a few
moves. I think he is getting better at it.

Muthu Samy, skateboarding

Two of my best friends suggested I should start

skateboarding, so now the three of us do it together. There
isn’t a skateboard park in my neighbourhood, so my mother
could only take me to the nearest skateboard park in town once or twice a
month, but I’d like to do it every week. When I started, I didn’t know you
need to get so much stuff – and it isn’t cheap! I really love it. I don’t think I’ll
ever get bored of skateboarding.
