    Rainbow Baby Rattle
    CROCHET PATTERN

    Materials and Tools


    You can use any sport or worsted yarn for your rainbow.
    I used this yarn for my rattles:
    YarnArt JEANS, 55% cotton, 45% acrilyc; 160 m/50gr
    Alize Cotton Gold, 55% cotton, 45% acrilyc; 165 m/50gr
    Gazzal Organic Baby Cotton 100% organic cotton 115 m/50gr
    Possible colorways for rainbows are given below.
    some white laced yarn for the dividing sleep stiches (I used Vita
    Cotton Pelican yarn)
    Crochet hook that is convenient for you when using this kind of yarn (I
    used 2.5 mm hook for rainbow and 1.5 mm for white yarn) and:
    Needle for sewing, Wooden ring 2.2-2.4" (5.5-6 cm) in diameter, Scissors,
    Stuffing (holofiber or any synthetic material), flat rattle with a diameter
    of 1-1.5 ", crochet markers, wooden beads 2 pcs 12 mm in diameter and 1
    pcs 14 mm in diameter (if you choose 2nd assebling option).

    Front side. Start crochet with color А.
    Chain 9 + 1 CH for turning.
    Row 1: 8 SC along the chain, starting with the second chain from the
    hook; 4 SC into the last chain, 8 SC along the other side of the chain.
    CH 1 and turn your work. (20)
    Important: the rainbow is crocheted along both sides of the chain
    using turning rows. At the end of every row CH 1 and turn your work.
    Further in the text this step is not mentioned at the end of every row.

    Front side is ready. Cut the thread, weave the tail.

    Crochet the back part following the same instructions, do not cut the
    thread when you finish. You can crochet it multi-colored as well, or
    use one color as I did (color E). If you choose the last option, crochet
    all rows through both loops.

    Assembling
    Align the two parts together as demonstrated on the photo and
    work a row of single crochets along the edge, inserting the hook
    through both layers joining them in this way. While joining the
    parts I recommend making increases at the outer angles.

    Stuff the rainbow as you go. When you reach the bottom edge of
    the toy, stuff it and insert a rattle inside. I do not recommend
    tight stuffing, keep the rainbow flat. Join the bottom edges,
    fasten and cut the thread. Hide the tail inside the detail using a
    tapestry needle.

    With white yarn and smaller size hook crochet a row of SLST one
    by one using loops of rows 2, 4, 6 and 8. Weave in the tails of the
    white thread with a needle.

    Attaching to the ring
    Option #1 - attaching directly to the ring with a cuff.
    At the top of the rainbow select 5 stitches in the joining row,
    frame those stitches with stitch markers, or just mark them in
    your head.
    Row 1: join the thread with a SL ST into the outermost stitch on
    the right, SC into the same stitch, then 4 SC into the next stitches.
    CH 1 and turn your work. (5)
    Row 2-12 (11 rows): 5 SC. Don’t forget to CH 1 for turning at the
    end of every row.
    Depending on your ring thickness you might have to crochet
    more/less rows for the cuff, check as you crochet.
    Fasten and cut the thread, leave a 10-15 cm long tail for sewing.
    Fold the cuff around the ring and sew the end of the cuff to the
    main detail, as shown in the photo.

    Option #2 - using a cord with beads.

    Using crochet hook join the thread from the skein at rainbow one
    point top as shown in the photo. Crochet a chain of 15-20 cm long,
    fasten and cut the thread.

    Put 3 wooden beads onto the chain. Fix the cord with a loop on
    the ring as shown in the pictures. Pull the cord, and feed it back
    through the beads. If the holes in the beads allow you can tie a
    couple of knots between the beads, those knots will be invisible.
    Pull the cord tight. Then you can undo the chain up to the beads,
    and with sewing needle hide the tail inside the rainbow. Your
    rattle is ready!
