Pruning shears, hoe, sprinkler, trowel, wheelbarrow, shovel, rake, hand fork,
bolo, crowbar, shovel, other tools, and equipment: like hose, sprayer, weighing
scale, piece of wood or bamboo

IV. PROCEDURE
a. Review of the Previous Lesson
Ask the pupils to name the layout or design of the orchard shown using pictures.

b. Establishing Purpose of the Lesson


Study the jumbled letters to form a word.
1. OTLSO - it is a handheld device that aids in accomplishing a task
2. QEPUIMNET - supplies or tools needed for a purpose
3. PATIONPROGA - act or action of propagating
- to cause to continue or increase

Today’s lesson has something to do with the words you formed. We are
going to identify the tools and equipment used in plant propagation as well as
their uses. Can you name a tool or equipment and site its uses? How can plant
propagation be a source of income of the family?

c. Presenting examples/instances of new lesson


Using picture of the different tools and equipment in plant propagation
asked the pupils to name it.

d. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills
Discuss to the pupils the uses of the different tools and equipment used in
propagating plants.
1. Hoe – a tool used in digging and lossening hard and dry soil. It has athin
blade across the end of a long handle.
2. Rake – a long handled tool having a bar at one end with teeth in it. It is used
for smoothening the soil and gathering loose leaves, hay or straw.
3. Trowel – a tool with a curved blade used for loosening ground and taking up
small plants.
4. Axe – a tool with a flat, sharp blade fastened to a handle used for cutting
trunk of trees and their branches.
5. Crowbar – a straight, heavy iron bar pointed at one end about 4 feet in length,
used for digging holes for planting seedlings.
6. Bolo – a tool with a wooden or metal handle from which a long blade is
attached. It is used for cutting all grasses and branches of trees.
7. Shovel – a tool with a broad or scoop attached to a handle. It is used to dig,
lift and throw loose matter.
8. Fork – a tool resembling a table fork but much bigger in size. It is used in
digging and preparing the soil for the plants.
9. Water sprinkler – a can with a spout to sprinkle water on the plants. Plants
should be watered everyday to make them grow healthier. Hose and pail can
also be used in watering plants.

e. Developing mastery
Show a picture of tools used in plant propagation and have the pupils tell
its uses.

f. Finding practical applications of concepts and skills


Are you now ready to use these tools in propagating plants? Do think
your knowledge about the tools and equipment will help you? How will it help
you?

V. Evaluating Learning

Directions: Name the tools used in propagating plants described by the given
sentences.
