BOOK DESIGN AND ILLUSTRATION

• Another extremely rich and promising area for young Filipino artists is
the field of book design and illustration. With appreciation to the
visionary mindsets of progressive Philippine book publishers such as
Bookmark, Anvil Publishing, Adarna Books, Tahanan Books for
Young Readers (now Ilaw ng Tahanan Publishing) and Lampara
Books. Local book designers and illustrators have been given the
professional stature they deserve and the creative freedom they need to
truly showcase their talents.
Do you think that Filipino ingenuity is
distinct, exceptional and at par with
global standards in the fields of book
design and illustration?
BOOKS WITH ILLUSTRATIONS

Ako Ay May Titi by Genaro Gojo

Cruz and Ako Ay May Kiki by
Glenda Oris made the rounds online
for their controversial topic:
children's genitals. Published by
Lampara Books for children five
years old and up, the books highlight
the importance of taking care of their
private parts and seeing them
without malice.
REASONS WHY WE SHOULD NOT CALL THE
BODY PARTS WITH “PET” NAMES..
• As an advocate for Body Safety Education both in homes and schools, I implore you to use the correct
anatomical terms for your genitals especially the children. These terms are:  VAGINA, VULVA,
BREASTS, BOTTOM, PENIS, TESTICLES.
• Using pet names with your child makes it easier for a pedophile to ‘off load’ any complaints of
inappropriate touch made by the child as just a ‘bit of fun’ and easily dismissed by adults uneducated in
Body Safety.
• Using the correct anatomical terms helps explain to children the changes to their body as puberty kicks in.
The topic can be discussed without making it into a joke or belittling its importance. Body parts such as
the penis or vagina should be as 'everyday' to your child as any other body part, for example, an elbow or
nose.
The Little Prince is a novella by French aristocrat, writer, and
military aviator Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. It was first published
in English and French in the United States by Reynal
& Hitchcock in April 1943 and was published posthumously in
France following liberation.

The story follows a young prince who visits various planets in

space, including Earth, and addresses themes of loneliness,
friendship, love, and loss. Despite its style as a children's
book, The Little Prince makes observations about life, adults
and human nature.

The Little Prince became Saint-Exupéry's most successful work,

selling an estimated 140 million copies worldwide, which
makes it one of the best-selling and most translated books ever
published. It has been translated into over 301 languages and
dialects. The Little Prince has been adapted to numerous art
forms and media, including audio recordings, radio plays, live
stage, film, television, ballet, and opera

CULTURE AND ARTS

• Culture can give people a connection to certain social values, be

liefs, religions and customs
. It allows them to identify with others of similar mindsets and
backgrounds. Cultural heritage can provide an automatic sense
of unity and belonging within a group and allows us to better
understand previous generations and the history of where we
come from.
Do you know what is
digital media?
DIGITAL MEDIA

All the artistic skills and techniques that go into producing books
like those just presented, of course have their counterpart in the
ever-growing world of digital media. This means that books that
were originally available only in print are being gradually converted
to digital format, while new books are now conceptualized, written,
designed and illustrated precisely for these online media.

DIGITAL MEDIA

This also means that the manner by which today’s readers can
find, access and enjoy to these electronic books or “ebooks” is
via digital media tablets, ebook readers, and other handled
reading devices. One such device that is available locally is the
ebook reader called Kobo and Wattpad Which features
international as well as Philippine titles.
