People - Win - Transform
“We need to think differently and we need to move faster, and one thing I have found throughout my career is that SOF knows how to do that better than anyone else." General Charles Q. Brown, Jr., Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff

The United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) Army Reserve Element provides MOS-qualified and deployable Army Reserve personnel to augment USSOCOM, leveraging their military experience, applicable civilian skills, and rapid availability, in order to meet peacetime, contingency, and wartime requirements.

Special Operations require unique modes of employment and equipment, tactics techniques and procedures. SOCOM develops and employs fully capable Special Operations Forces to conduct global Special Operations and activities as part of the Joint Force.

SOCOM works in support of the Global Combatant Commanders’ objectives and do so in concert with the U.S. Government Interagency, Allies and Partners, to support persistent, networked and distributed combatant command operations and campaigns against state and non-state actors to protect and advance U.S. policies and objectives.

SOCOM ARE provides trained Reserve personnel to augment and fully integrate into the SOCOM headquarters, JSOC and TSOCs, leveraging military experience, civilian skills, and availability to effectively meet peacetime, crisis, and wartime requirements on a timely basis.

Life in SOCOM is extremely busy. The world has not slowed down for SOF despite the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan having ended – SOF continues to provide unique access and placement that create options for the nation's leaders.

Upon joining the ARE, Soldiers will attend the five-day Introduction to Special Operations Forces - Foundations Course before reporting to their directorate.

Based on your MOS and position, there will be opportunities to attend additional JSOU or Foundry courses. For information on JSOU courses, check out https://www.jsou.edu/.

Officer-in-Charge Notes

Greetings from SOCOM ARE,

If you are interested, or know a Soldier who is interested in joining the SOCOM ARE, click on the, "How To Join" link on the left side of this page. SOCOM ARE is looking for NCOs, Warrants and Officers with diverse backgrounds, looking for a challenge.

ARE Soldiers have the flexibility to participate in mission-critical exercises and operations, attend specialized training courses essential for their roles and gain real-world experience in their assigned positions.

ARE personnel provide crucial assistance to the Command, Agencies, and Directorates. These assignments are tailored to each Soldier's individual expertise and outlined in their YTP. The nature of this support demands flexibility in duty performance.

As a reminder, priorities are:

Duty Military Occupational Specialty Qualification (DMOSQ)

Professional Military Education (PME)

Mission Essential Tasks (METs)

Army Warrior Task Training

OER/NCOER

We need to continue to focus on maintaining readiness. Each of us must ensure currency on all of our annual medical requirements. The ARE staff has been tasked with aggressively enforcing medical readiness standards, so if you are overdue on anything, expect to hear from the unit leadership. You are required to complete a PHA and dental exam every 12 months and you should be scheduling your appointments when you are within 90 days of your next required examination date. Maintaining your readiness requirements is a condition of remaining in the ARE and we expect proactive and voluntary adherence to these standards.

Thank you.
