Color is not a physical property of a physical system -- it is derived from the physical spectral properties of light in a way that is very specific to the observer. For example, for most humans, color is a three-dimensional quantity (three primaries, three color types of photoreceptors in the retina), but for some birds it has six or more dimensions. We see as the same, many colors that they see as different. It's not just the number of receptors in the retina, but their spectral response curves, that determine what "same color" and "different color" mean to us. If no objections, I will remove instance-of physical property. DavRosen (talk) 08:05, 21 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

AAT IDs for color

[edit]

Wikidata des not seem to make the distinction between AAT's 300080438 "colors (hues or tints)" and 300056130 "color (perceived attribute)". I have assigned both AAT IDs to this item. - PKM (talk) 21:24, 13 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I have created an automatic list that of entries of this type and included the column so you can see if any are still missing Back ache (talk) 00:31, 12 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

is color a metaclass for color?

[edit]

color (Q1075) is metaclass for (P8225) color (Q1075) is a questionable statement. There are meanings of color for which this is true for some instances of color i.e., sky blue (Q373160) could be considered to be a subclass of (P279) of color (Q1075). But there are colors that are hard to consider as a subclass of color, for example, the Pantone colors. They seem to be individual colors, not a group of colors. Peter F. Patel-Schneider (talk) 23:19, 19 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I added it because all the colors I could find, on Wikidata, were subclasses of another color. It seems like Pantone colors, like Pantone 448 C (Q24885519), don't have these statements, but should that not be a subclass of brown or something? -wd-Ryan (Talk/Edits) 14:11, 20 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

how do I color?

[edit]

Is there a wikiproject or portal for discussions about and documentation on modeling color data in wikidata?

If I want to learn how to model genealogy relationships I can go to Wikidata:WikiProject Genealogy and find out how to do that. Where do I go to learn how to organize colors?

Example question: How do I add triadic color scheme relationships to a given color? I can use Property:P461 for complimentary relationships, how do I indicate other standard color groups, such as the triad Purple, Green, and Orange? Jerimee (talk) 19:41, 4 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
