If you are going to state that the value of a property is unknown (such as the language of The Call of the Wild (Q116213066)), please actually set the value to "unknown value", rather than to concept of unknown value in Wikibase (Q19798648) as you have been doing. (That item is unfortunately not automatically converted to "unknown value" by the software.) Mahir256 (talk) 16:39, 16 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for drawing attention to the topic.
OK, so in code terms, what value do you want me to put in? Is there a Q item to put in?
ISBN numbers are a disaster for books, there are database full of variations of publisher names, don't have the language (in the case you are citing - the language of the book isn't in Goodreads database), etc. I'm hoping WikiData can become a place all this mess gets cleaned up by the crowd. As Goodreads and other sites don't you amend/edit this information. The whole Internet is full of a lot of this incomplete and junk data about books (OpenLibrary has major problems with association of books to their editions). It's a really messy area of data consistency.
I'm hoping we can have a value people can query and do manual cleanup. BitOneZero (talk) 16:46, 16 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You do not put in a Qid for unknown values, since 'unknown value' is not an item: it is a special value which you must specify (see 'somevalue' in "Special snaktypes" in this page for how WikibaseJS uses it--assuming you're using that library directly). See also how I specified that value in the item I mentioned earlier to know how it will look. Mahir256 (talk) 17:13, 16 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks. I'll modify the code I wrote. BitOneZero (talk) 17:15, 16 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I my opinion the language of work or name (P407) should not be set to unknown value. If you do not know the language of the item/work, the language of work or name (P407) property should not be set at all, because the language of the item/work is known (as far as I can see it is English). Unknown value should only be set if "the world" does not know the Language. — Finn Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 16:29, 21 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have now examined quite a lot of the your edits and none of them should be "unknown value", because the language is known, - it is just not specified in the resource you have gotten the information from. For instance, La guerre des mondes: Édition Illustrée (Q116228656) should be French (Q150), not unknown value (I have changed it). — Finn Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 14:13, 24 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
