Images being deleted from Commons

[edit]

Please note that images being deleted from Commons will automatically (by bots) be removed from Wikidata items as well as Wikipedia articles. --Hjart (talk) 20:51, 20 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hjart OK, thanks!. Will note going forward. The Squirrel Conspiracy (talk) 20:52, 20 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Previous account

[edit]

Per WD:AA you should declare your previous account in your user page. (You may request to edit your protected old user page at WD:AN.)--GZWDer (talk) 15:58, 7 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Eh, sure. I'm not "back" - all my edits on this project originated from actions on other projects - but it's not much of a bother to set it all up. I've set up the same user page I've got on Commons, which has a disclaimer about having old accounts and links back to my English Wikipedia user page that has the details. I'll head over to AN now. Reverts in Q550067

[edit]

Hello, I wonder why you change my editions in Q550067? If I made those editions, it is because I am basing myself on the articles to make them, not so that you, who surely do not even know what articles you are changing, come to revert my editions. I ask you please not to come back and revert editions just for doing it, especially if you haven't even read the articles, ignorant Bogartlipa1989 (talk) 07:10, 18 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations, Dear Administrator!

[edit]

English | español | français | Nederlands | русский | +/−

An offering for our new administrator from your comrades... (our gift is better than the one at Commons or Meta)

Here's your badge: {{User admin}}/{{#babel:admin}} and {{Admin topicon}}. Enjoy!

Congratulations! You now have the rights of administrator on Wikidata. Please take a moment to read the Wikidata:Administrators page and watchlist related pages (in particular Wikidata:Project chat, Wikidata:Requests for comment, and Wikidata:Administrators' noticeboard), before launching yourself into page deletions, page protections, account blockings, or modifications of protected pages.

Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikidata-adminconnect. If you need access, you can flag someone down at #wikidataconnect. You may find Wikidata:Guide to Adminship to be useful reading. You may also want to consider adding yourself to meta:Template:Wikidata/Ambassadors, and to any similar page on your home wiki if one exists. (Check Wikipedia:Wikidata/Wikidatans (Q14964498).)

Please also add/update the languages you speak to your listing at Wikidata:List of administrators and Wikidata:Administrators/Timeline. You may also like to add your username to this list if you would not like that items you delete at RfD get marked as deleted automatically. Again, welcome to the admin corps!

Welcome back! --DannyS712 (talk) 06:47, 9 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

To delete on Commons

[edit]

Hi The Squirrel Conspiracy, I think these two files are out of scope and thus can be deleted: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:HamzaChahiSOTGD2024.jpg; https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Hamzachahi2023.jpg (cf. my deletion request). Is it ok to notify you here or should I add a template on Commons? Regards, Dorades (talk) 21:39, 16 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Some of my notes on RED ƎYE

[edit]

It looks like User:REDƎYE's previous account was User:WikiSyn. I'm assuming the "Syn" stands for JK Arsyn. That account created a lot of categories on Commons. Many of the Commons categories have corresponding Wikidata category items whose only sitelinks are Commons. Nothing nearly as bad as the creations on the REDEYE account, but something I'm going to dig through in the coming weekend. Low hanging fruit is probably commons:Category:CreaSyn Studio and related Wikidata items. William Graham (talk) 04:27, 18 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I also suspect that commons:User:Streets4rage is Arysn as well. The name resembles the Sega video game Streets of Rage which Arysn named his musical project Synth of Rage. Streets4rage has many edits on Redeye-related pages on various Wikipedias. And edits on Sega game topics like WikiSyn. Tomorrow I will look into whether the use of each account overlapped in ways that qualify as abusing multiple accounts, but I think voting on the Commons image deletion request as Redeye and Streets4Rage probably crosses that line. William Graham (talk) 05:17, 18 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that there's enough credible suspicion to open an SPI on either en.Wiki or Commons. The Squirrel Conspiracy (talk) 18:45, 18 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello William Graham, hello The Squirrel Conspiracy,
Thank you for pinging me.
So to answer your questions as accurately as possible:
  • User:REDƎYE is not my "new" account (mine works well enough, even if I unfortunately don't have much time to devote to this wonderful project that is Wikimedia at the moment. I hope to be able to free up more time in the coming months, without certainty. Fingers crossed!): although I am RED ƎYE president, their account here is managed by our volunteer office. To be transparent: I sort of trained User:REDƎYE in how to edit Wikidata and Commons. Basically, the idea was to offer all the files of The Cristal Gem (which is a free film made voluntarily that therefore cannot bring money to anyone), to illustrate articles that deal with the film and to fill in the data. I simply asked them to never intervene on Wikipedia (even if we saw errors on the The Cristal Gem articles). That being said:
    • we got together last week and discussed this matter; I have read most of the exchanges (perhaps not all as it is so scattered but I understood the general idea and that is the main thing) and what it comes down to is that I personaly agree with your conclusions: most of The Cristal Gem files are out of scope (I nevertheless think that in the batch of screenshots, there are a few which could have been used for different topics but they are a minority and in any case, they will not be lacking in the Wikimedia project: Wikimedia already has much better);
    • I think I misdirected User:REDƎYE regarding the creation of categories on Commons and linked items on Wikidata (I sincerely thought that each Commons page should be linked to Wikidata with infobox). That's both the problem and the solution of Wiki: we see edits and we copy. If we copy an error without knowing that it is an error, the error is reproduced endlessly and this creates the problem we have today. Please accept my apologies for this. If I have to be punished, it will be deserved: at least it will have the advantage of having been educational, this is what I will remember from this lesson;
    • regarding the articles on Wikipedia, I cannot comment: beyond the conflict of interest which prevents me from being objective, the rules are different from one wiki to another and moreover, I do not master the languages concerned. I read that we paid for awards and reviews, User:REDƎYE has already answered this point but you seem not to have taken it into account and that's as shame as it is unfair: we didn't, we only paid the registration fees to participate in the festivals, that's all. I don't want to argue, but basing an argument on a simple assumption seems against the rules to me, especially when on the other hand you ask other contributors for serious sources, especially since here, you are spreading false information which not only misdirects users but also harms us. This rule of neutrality and respect should apply to everyone, regardless of opinion and role on the Wiki Project.
    • in 2015, I voted for keeping the article about my film on Wikipedia in French (what I shouldn't have done because I wasn't objective, although I didn't hide my connection to the film). At the time, I was new to Wikipedia and I was excited by the small success that this draft short film was having. Since then, I have changed my mind. Indeed, it is one of my first animated films, made in a hurry for the Annecy festival. I suffered from its success because on the one hand, it overshadowed my other films (which are correctly made unlike The Cristal Gem), on the other hand it did not represent my abilities (so for my professional reputation it's not great). So seeing it all over the internet is a problem for me (on this point, I disagree with my team / User:REDƎYE who sees it as a success). Still for the sake of transparency, you will note that I voted for the deletion of an article concerning me in 2014. Promoting (or spaming) is not what I am looking for here, neither I nor User:REDƎYE solicited anyone anywhere to vote to keep the articles: we're not kids anymore;
    • the only thing I wanted to do (and didn't do due to lack of time to log in) was to use photos of me uploaded by User:REDƎYE (that you deleted) on my user page, again to be transparent with users who might visit my profile.
  • William, you are right on this point: "Syn" stands here for "Arsyn" (however the "Syn" in "CreaSyn" has nothing to do with me: CreaSyn Studio is a company we sometimes work with, unless I'm mistaken "Syn" stands here for "Synergy").
  • Synth of Rage is one of my (free) musical projet, you are right again, but User:Streets4rage has nothing to do with User:REDƎYE and me. I understand such a conflation, especially since Synth of Rage is named after Sega's Streets of Rage franchise, which this user seems to mainly modify. Likewise, you could mention User:Supersonic888 (should I ping him / her?) who also voted to keep (just like in 2015) and intervenes on articles related to Sonic just like me (I am at the origin of the Project:Sega on Wikipedia in French and I see that at the moment Supersonic888 is the one who contributes the most to it), which makes Supersonic888 another suspect. We got here similar names and all are active in related fields so your suspicion is legitimate but there's nothing else, thus I'm waiting for the SPI results, I'm not worried. The only thing you will find is that I am connecting from the same IP address as User:REDƎYE (who stated this all along; please note that RED ƎYE is a non-profit association whose address is at my personal home so we cannot do otherwise. If this is a problem, please let us know and we will follow your instructions). In consideration of the requests for checkuser here I could have not logged in and hid my head in the sand but once again I prefer to be transparent. RED ƎYE and I are here to build bridges, not walls.
Thank you for taking the time to read me (and sorry for the length of the message). I hope I did not forget anything. Don't hesitate to answer me, I will try to do the same (but probably not before Saturday as I am overwhelmed).
Sincerely yours, - ʂɤɲ 06:01, 19 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @The Squirrel Conspiracy
