Even more contested items about Wikimedians
There have been constant protests on the Administrators' noticeboard for the review of every topic item deletion by Maarten from the week of July 14th. These six items, plus a seventh added by yours truly, were all entirely created and expanded (or at least the majority of edits to these items were contributed) by their subjects.
I had previously opted to leave the first six items here deleted, because those items above which I did undelete (and those undeleted items on this subject which I kept when renominated by Pasleim) were not majority or wholly edited by their subjects. I had interpreted this characteristic to mean that someone else had considered them notable enough for Wikidata (at the bare minimum under criterion 2 of WD:N) and thus that their conception of this notability is worthy of being challenged in a forum such as this, as opposed to cases of clear self-promo items created and expanded by their subjects (that conceivably could also be kept under this same criterion) which when nominated are generally promptly deleted by an admin. The question here that should be answered once and for all is whether we should consider a Wikimedian's own assessment of their own notability, such that they decide to create and expand their own items, enough to satisfy WD:N, bearing in mind that we have deleted items by clear self-promoters who have assessed themselves to be notable enough to warrant creation and expansion of their own items. - Well, thanks goodness I persisted. Shani Evenstein Sigalov (Q55396255), for example, is the author of Wikipedia as a platform for impactful learning: A new course model in higher education (Q28002844), a published academic paper, and so clearly notable, and so was improperly deleted. Delete As discussed on AN, they are all self-promotion. Where is the structural need? Where is the notability or contribution to the world outside Wikimedia movement? Where are references? - The claim that "they are all self-promotion" is utterly without merit; but in any case if it were true is not a breach of our policies. The "structural need" which, while one of our notability criteria, is in itself not a requirement), in at least one case, is evidenced above, as is the "contribution to the world outside Wikimedia movement". - Hello, I see one of the items is the Wikidata item created by me. Even I had this doubt of notability being a criteria on Wikidata; my co-editors could not give me a clear rule on this regard. The main purpose of my creation of this was a menial one; for the Commons Creator template which demands a Wikidata item for the author. Add to that the fact that some of my colleagues already had such items without any violation for a pretty long time. I just thought it would be a good way to bind all of a user/editor's works together. I have no problem at all if the Wikidata item is removed as well; just a clear guide on the subject would be useful for the topic. -Prateek Pattanaik (talk) 14:58, 14 August 2018 (UTC)
- Delete, clear self promotions. Most of the time, commons category, commons creator template, external authorities are also self-created. for eg.
