Aboutness

[edit]

Wrt. aboutness, I have a tendency to think that field of work (P101) is the most natural. — Finn Årup Nielsen (fnielsen) (talk) 09:58, 27 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi folks, any plans on standardizing/mapping fields of science?

https://github.com/CrossRef/rest-api-doc/issues/422#issuecomment-452697133 lists 5 datasets of science classification. The largest one by far is Microsoft Academic FOS (229k nodes). --Vladimir Alexiev (talk) 13:36, 9 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Vladimir Alexiev: I would welcome this! I think the recent surge in adding main subject (P921) on publications really ought to be based on such a mapping. For instance, arXiv (Q118398) stores in its metadata many Mathematics Subject Classification ID (P3285) which could be used on the 52k publications tagged with arXiv ID (P818) to link them to their subject. I am not familiar with the database of subjects you mention but I am sure most of them could easily have corresponding Wikidata properties. − Pintoch (talk) 13:50, 9 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I've consolidated the info to https://gist.github.com/VladimirAlexiev/fafdcb258d067cfed272664d6ae5d982, which now described 6 datasets of Science Classification. Will keep it up to date as we progress --Vladimir Alexiev (talk) 10:46, 14 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Integration in Wikiproject:WikiProject Wikidata for research

I would want to move the contents of this project page to the relevant subpage of Wikidata:WikiProject Wikidata for research/Data models/Research projects, and create a redirect for "Wikidata:WikiProject Research projects" to the page. It is the more active project with more and better data models, and most participants here are subscribed there too.

If there is any opposition to this please stop me by commenting here. Kristbaum (talk) 11:10, 6 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Looks reasonable to me. Egon Willighagen (talk) 07:47, 7 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
