Stormy pattern lasts into the weekend

More clouds and rain should keep temperatures below normal for a few days

NEW ORLEANS — A stormy pattern settles in over the next 4-6 days as tropical moisture builds in Gulf. Expect the chance for rain to increase over the next several days. Wednesday's chance sits at 40%, Thursday 50% and Friday at 60%. There will be breaks in the rain, but your chance of seeing a downpour is highest toward Friday.

This also continues into the Labor Day Weekend. I expect scattered showers and thunderstorms both Saturday and Sunday. Luckily there will be some breaks in the rain if you have plans outside, but getting rained on seems like a good bet.

The flood threat does look isolated, but brief heavy downpours are certainly likely at times. Most pick up between 2-4 inches over the next seven days, but a few spots could see more, especially for areas near the coast. With more clouds and rain around temperatures will mostly stay in the 80s.

Tracking the Tropics:

Overall there aren't any significant threats in the tropics, but there are a few areas to watch. The first is disturbed weather in the Gulf. Over the next 3-5 days showers and thunderstorms will sit over the western Gulf. It wouldn't be impossible for a weak low pressure to form as we head into the weekend and early next week. Regardless, this tropical moisture will bring rounds of rain to Texas and Louisiana over the next five days or so.

Elsewhere, an area is being monitored in the Atlantic. It won't do anything very quickly, but it's something the Caribbean islands want to keep an eye on into next week.
