Amber India

Okay wow so came into the city for dinner fully expecting to go to Tropisueño, but there was a big conference at Moscone and most of the restaurants in the plaza were closed to accommodate the event goers. LUCKILY Amber was not a part of this! We got in at the very tail end of happy hour(this was on a Wednesday) and G D this place was PACKED. We had no reservation but they were about to seat us in the area with the bar. Gotta say those seats suck and it's pretty cramped, not preferred for eating, best for socializing, but we were starving and it smelled so damn good.

So I got the tamarind sour (it was hella tart and lovely, refreshing) happy hour cocktail, the samosa chaat, and the cauliflower and broccoli croquette(it's not really a croquette like the Japanese kind, it was just battered cauliflower, no broccoli accounted for) with a damn good delicate yogurt sauce.

And we also ordered butter chicken and and rice with garlic naan, classic choices duh. So damn good, perfect amount of food to share and be satiated. Service was lovely despite how busy they were, a lil chaotic in this restaurant but it's part of the appeal imo, good for ppl watching if u sit by the stairs in bar area.

This place had an amazing atmosphere and the food was in the same level. The food presentation was spectacular and the taste was joyous. Actually 10/10. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to shower their taste buds with dreams and pure happiness.

Went here for the brunch buffet and it was delicious! So many dessert choices, to butter chicken, paneer, vegetable dishes, etc and the strawberry lassi was pretty good (had no idea it was a thing!) They even had a variety of chaats. Did not have the mimosas but that is an option. The restaurant is pretty spacious and the staff are all friendly. It's also located downtown in the Bay area. I would definitely go again the next time I am in town!

This place has some very good Indian food, the service is too notch and the decor is modern. We got the veggie biryani rice, the garlic naan, the butter chicken. Everything was so tasty! Prices weren't bad for such a high end meal. Will definitely come back when I'm in town

My review was from 2013! Thought I'd update it with a more recent experience. By this point I'm a local and understand the prices are higher in SF. So to be fair, I'll take that out of the equation. Food is great here. I especially like the tandoori meats. But everything we've tried here is good. We also enjoyed the cocktails. I liked Spice Route with bourbon. Service is also good and attentive. It's not as packed as before covid but definitely more people than just a few months ago. Great ambiance, looked like a mix of office workers and conference attendees, maybe, on a Thursday evening. Anyway, we'll be back.

Same day reservation made on Saturday at 715pm. Lovely dim lit ambiance with a cute heated patio as well... service was so sweet and attentive.

Food:
Butter chicken 4/5 - creamy but a tad sweet for my liking... husband felt it tasted similar to tomato soup and wanted more spices. Chicken was tender!
Tandoori sampler 3.5/5 - chicken was great, shrimp was slightly over cooked and lamb kebabs were dry.
Kachumber salad 5/5 - large portion and delicious and refreshing
Garlic naan 5/5 - crispy thin naan with chewy edges. Loved!
Saffron rice 5/5 - great accompaniment to the entrees
Samosas 4/5 - small fried potato dumplings! Tasted fantastic but came out just lukewarm. Sauces were great.

Price was $120 w tax and 20% tip with no drinks or dessert ordered. Pricey but worth it for the last minute dinner date!

My fav Indian restaurant in the area and this is coming from an Indian with a high bar so you know it's worth a shot. Convenient location off Market and in Yerba Buena Gardens area. Try the butter chicken with garlic naan and the shrimp biryani. Good flavor, great ambiance and they have a full bar for drinks.

The maitre d' was terrible and on her phone when we arrived and left which is saying something given it was a Friday night reservation. We were on a date and seated next to a family with a small child. We asked for another table, and the man helping us was incredibly rude, giving me a dirty look when I smiled and thanked him. Our waiter was okay. Wine arrived after dinner was served and eaten. The food and atmosphere are pretty good, but the service made us regret giving the restaurant our business. Will not be returning.

I have nothing but good things to say about Amber India. We asked for recommendations from our server and ordered the Garlic Naan, Butter Chicken, and Saag Paneer. The flavors of all of our dishes were out of this world, the perfect balances of spices and sweetness. The service was lovely, we got our food quickly and the ambiance was great. Absolutely would come back here next time I'm in town.

For the food, the chai, the dessert, and my new best friend Martin he checked up on us often, provided great dish recommendations, and offered extra tea. Great food and service!
