Echoing other reviews, this is the best bar in Springfield, though with names like "Scandals" its competitors don't seem to be putting up much of a fight.
Brewhaus has a cute divey interior. They only had a few craft and local beers on tap, though the ones I tried were good. They have a much larger selection of bottles, but I prefer drafts.
The scene was pretty quiet for a Thursday night, with only a handful of people at the bar early in the evening. The noise level was low enough that it was easy to hold a conversation.
I'd definitely stop by again if I ever come back through.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Joe B.Chicago, IL2281006281Sep 15, 2013
Firstly, this place doesn't look like a bar. It looks like a Denny's that's gone over to the dark side. If you decide to booth it, you'll be pleasantly surprised by the great table-side service. And if you're like me and used to big city prices, you'll marvel at the dirt cheap prices on pitchers here.

This is easily the best beer bar in Springfield, and probably in the top five in Illinois, excluding Chicagoland. Draft list is ok to decent, but bottle list is where the variety really comes in. Friendly patrons and bartenders who like to talk beer. You can also order food in here, and you'll receive plenty of recommendations for decent local carry out. If you're spending an evening in Springfield, this is one of the best places in town I've found to spend it.
Note - this review is from 1/20/2010, but never posted, as I entered it via mobile app.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Juan G.Rancho Cucamonga, CA161468600Nov 5, 2012
One of the great dive bars I've been to. It seems to have all of the original exterior and interior bones of the building, which in Springfield you know it's old, like from Lincoln's days. Thus it makes it feel a bit historic.
They have a great selection of micro beers but most are in bottles not in draft. The draft beers are the big names like Miller Lite, Bud, Guinness, etc... They also serve a mixed blue drink called "Fred". It's blue and comes with ice in a pitcher. I did not order or taste one but it was popular with most people there. The nice waitress told me the ingredients are a secrete; she wouldn't even tell me what spirit was in it. Oh well, I don't like mixed drinks anyway.
Popcorn is free, I don't know if they sell food, and the service is great. I forgot our waitress' name but I remember she said she was originally from Riverside CA. She was really nice and put up with our drunken asses; I would like to say "thank you" to her.
I will be back for sure!!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jason S.Romeoville, IL2961May 13, 2012

Small, dark and quiet bar. A decent place to hang out with a group of people of a couple drinks and some un-winding after a long day at work. Wasn't too pricey and they had a HUGE selection of draft beers.
Also had some live performers which made a Sunday bar night even more enjoyable.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Santiago A.Loxahatchee, FL51242745Apr 24, 2010
Man, this use to be the go-to bar back in the day. I haven't been back in a while but then they had everything I thought a bar should have. There was a long bar, many large booths, darts in the back, Tron video game, great beer selection. Yeah, I definitely miss this place.
Hopefully it's still holding its own. The other reviews seem to point to yes, so I'll have to stop by on my next visit into town.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Ryan S.Queens, NY4046624Nov 18, 2015
This place has gone far downhill since I moved away in 2011. Beer selection used to be unrivaled, with very knowledgeable servers. Now it's almost the opposite. The last time I was there the waitress didn't even have a beer list for me, and she didn't drink beer herself. The only good things about it now are a shitty dive bar experience, if that's what you are looking for, and free popcorn all the time. If you're not into those, avoid this place. Bring back the old Brewhaus.

Walked in. The place was empty. The bartender acted like we were bothering her when we asked about the 8 beers on draft. When asked if we could sample one, she said no. We had to buy a flight. Do not go here.

Great bartenders, owner, patrons & drinks. Perfect dive bar for posting up with friends and drink the night away. The extensive beer selection is a huge plus! I also really enjoy that the music selection is possibly the best in Springfield, they will play great albums from start to finish - really great atmosphere.
Be sure to stop by when they have live music, I wish they did it more often!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
