Putnam's campaign website highlighted the following issues:
“ |
To Schools: I believe our legislators need to return the public to the public schools. We need public schools that grow citizenship and community, not unfunded mandates from St. Paul. We need classrooms that meet our students where they are in order to take them to where they can be. I will work to make our schools local, inclusive, and ambitious. To Public Safety: I believe we need laws that support those who have given so much to us. We need to reinvest in veteran’s care and public safety. We need to make sure that police officers, fire fighters, and soldiers get the support they need, and more important, deserve, both to do their job and thank them for the work they have done. I will work to serve those who have served us. To the Economy: I believe we need to develop a business climate that builds on our strengths. We need to grow jobs that supply a paycheck, but we also need jobs that allow people to improve their standard of living, jobs that create hope, of promotion and of social mobility. We need jobs that grow the middle class and that allow our children to stay in this area and help it develop rather than leave because opportunity is elsewhere. I will work to grow a business climate that serves our community. To Transportation: I believe that we need to invest in a transportation infrastructure that grows community and speeds commerce. We need roads maintained and public transportation revitalized. I will work to steward and improve the pathways that connect us. To Constituent Service: I believe Central Minnesotans deserve a government that respects and serves them. We need independent legislators who listen to and communicate with the community and serve us with hard work and transparency. I will work to be present and accountable to the people of central Minnesota.[6] |

Scorecards
A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.
Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
