Biography
Liz Boldon was born in Waterloo, Iowa. Boldon earned a B.S. in nursing from Allen College and an M.S. in nursing education from the University of Phoenix. Her career experience includes working as a nursing education supervisor and as a registered nurse (RN).[1][2]

Growing up in Iowa, I had dreams of becoming a teacher. By the time I was in high school, working as a nursing assistant in a long term care facility, I knew I wanted to be a nurse. Thankfully, I've been fortunate enough to be both. After earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, I moved to Rochester in 2002 to work as an ICU nurse, where critical thinking, collaboration and compassion are imperative. I earned a Master's of Science of Nursing degree with a focus in Education, by doing homework late at night after my small children were in bed. I've been working hard my whole life.
Like others in my community, my family means the world to me. My daughter is 24 and my boys are 18 and 16, we love to play games and travel. My mother is retired and lives with us as well, for which I'm so grateful. I see firsthand the impact of the concerns of the climate crisis on young people and the challenges of the healthcare system for our elders. I'm motivated to take this experience to St. Paul and represent all families.
Everything I do is because I'm committed to building a better Minnesota and a better world for my kids, and all kids. I have concerns around many issues that we're facing. This is a critical time and the stakes in this election could not be higher. I'm so hopeful for our future and I know I have the skills, experience, and persistence to work towards meaningful solutions for everyone. I want to build an inclusive and just Minnesota where everyone is valued.

- As a nurse, educator, leader and organizer, I'm uniquely qualified to lead during these challenging times and be a bold voice to advocte for ALL Minnesotans

This includes:
Building a public education system that is fully funded and achieves education equity
Investing in a guaranteed healthcare system that creates health and provides ongoing support for all
Creating a community that is safe and inclusive for everyone. This is intersectional and includes issues of gun violence, the climate crisis and anti-racism.
I believe the characteristics most important for any elected official are empathy, leadership, and the ability to listen and build strong collaborative partnerships.
The qualities that will help me be successful as a legislator include leadership, compassion, empathy, strong communicaiton, effective listening and an empasis on collaberation.
My first job, at age 15, was a Certified Nursing Assistant in a long term care facility. It was hard work and I loved it. It taught me so much and led to my realization that I was meant to be a nurse. I developed relationships with the residents and looked up to the nurses, many of whom took my under their wing and taught me more than what I could ever learn from a book. Caring for people is what I've done my whole life and what I will continue to do in the Minnesota legislature.

I believe the biggest challenge before us is that which has been highlighted by COVID-19, there are significant economic challenges ahead of us, but it's important that we continue to put people first, that we push back against the politics of fear, scarcity and division, and the message that there's not enough. Budgets are moral documents and we have a responsibility to ensure that everyone is cared for. Everyone deserves quality, affordable healthcare, a quality education and a safe community. There is a way to do this and I'm committed to ensure that's where our focus remains.
I believe relationships are at the heard of accomplishing anything meaningful. I believe it is important to build relationships with other legislators in the same way it's beneficial for any team or collaborators to have relationships. This is part of what makes it possible to accomplish the important work of the legislature and move priorities forward.
As I'm speakng to residents across the district, there are so many stories that move me. One that stuck with me was a woman who had worked two or three jobs her whole life and was living paycheck to paycheck, unfortunately she developed a debilitating illness and was no longer able to work due to her health. She had to stop working and lost her health insurance. She applied for assistance but was denied. She wasn't able to get the care she needed and she didn't want to be a burden on her son, who was struggling to get by financially himself. She appealed the denial of assistance and made up her mind that if her appeal was denied, she was going to end her life. She had a full plan to do this. Thankfully, her appeal was approved and she was able get the care she needed, but she was very close to tragedy. So many people are living close to end edge. We need to ensure that everyone has the care they need and has the opportunity to succeed and thrive.
