Candidate Connection

Evan Worrell participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on April 6, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Evan Worrell's responses follow below.[2]

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

1) My top priority, if elected, would be to invest in our children. We need to have a higher standard for education while educating our children for the workforce. They are the future of this state and we need to ensure they are able to remain here and live their lives to the fullest.

2) Another top priority is our economic and business climate. We need to continue the improvement that has been achieved over the last few years by making our state attractive to outside businesses through tax incentives as well as removing the bureaucracy that our small businesses face and have to provide for.
3) We, as a state, must address and reverse the opioid epidemic in our state. We need to gather legislators with healthcare administration and addiction treatment centers to provide a comprehensive plan to combat this epidemic.[3][4]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

As a father of four, going on five children, I am extremely passionate about education. I want to ensure we are providing the most up to date education that meets the needs of the 21st century through improved education standards as well as school choice. We need to become creative to make sure we are doing right by our children and allowing them every opportunity to pursue their greatest potential.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[4]

Ballotpedia also asked the candidate a series of optional questions. Evan Worrell answered the following:

What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?

The first historical event that happened in my lifetime was Sept. 11, 2001. I was 21 years old and an active duty member of the United States Air Force.[4]
What was your very first job? How long did you have it?
My first true job was the United States Air Force. I was enlisted for 4 years and it taught me a great deal of how to be an adult and how to care for myself and others appropriately.[4]

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in West Virginia

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.

Click here for an overview of legislative scorecards in all 50 states. To contribute to the list of West Virginia scorecards, email suggestions to [email protected].
