LaWana Mayfield (Democratic Party) was a member of the Charlotte City Council in North Carolina, representing District 3. Mayfield assumed office in 2011. Mayfield left office on December 2, 2019.

The city of Charlotte, North Carolina, held elections for mayor and city council on November 7, 2017. A primary was held on September 12, 2017. A primary runoff was held on October 10, 2017, for the district 5 race. A candidate needed to receive over 40% of the vote in order to avoid a runoff election. All 11 seats on the city council were up for election. The filing deadline for candidates who wished to run in this election was July 21, 2017.

Incumbent LaWana Mayfield (D) defeated Daniel Herrera (R) in the Charlotte City Council District 3 general election.[2]

The city of Charlotte, North Carolina, held elections for mayor and city council on November 3, 2015. A primary took place on September 15, 2015. The filing deadline for candidates who wished to run in this election was July 17, 2015.[3] In the District 3 race, incumbent LaWana Mayfield defeated Rosa Hodge-Mustafa and Warren F. Turner in the Democratic, while Eric Wayne Netter was unopposed in the Republican primary. Mayfield defeated Netter in the general election.[4][5][6]

Noteworthy events

September 11, 2001, terrorist attack comments

On April 16, 2018, Mayfield posted an article on her Facebook account from the website Awarenessact.com titled, "It’s Official: European Scientific Journal Concludes 9/11 Was A Controlled Demolition." Mayfield commented on the article, writing, "I am still waiting for someone to produce pieces of the alleged plane that opened the doors for US Citizens to loose all privacy rights (from the conspiracy theorist in me)."[10]

In an interview with WFAE, she commented on the post, saying, “I believe this nation chose to take a horrific act and use it to not only create a way through government to spy on the American people, but also to privatize a lot of the work that is happening on the ground.”[10]
