Ruben Kihuen (D) defeated Republican incumbent Cresent Hardy, Steve Brown (L), and Mike Little (Independent American) in the general election on November 8, 2016. Hardy defeated challengers Mike Monroe and Wayne Villines in the Republican primary, while Kihuen defeated seven other Democrats to win the nomination in the primary.
